we used to be an internet... A REAL INTERNET!!!!
Reddit post from r/AskReddit titled, "URGENT! Need to know right fucking now: Is it safe for octopi to drink beer? Stout in particular". The post includes edits explaining that the octopus seems okay, but that the user replaced its containment rock with a cinderblock, and that the octopus later inked the tank before the user went to sleep.

one reason you should ignore the polls and vote no matter what is not that they’re wrong—the averages usually aren’t, especially this close to election day. it’s that polls inherently cannot fully account for republican voter suppression.

"It’s unlikely that El-Sayed and Ossoff will drastically change the trajectory or the margins of the midterms by calling a bigot a bigot or a Klansman a Klansman." If they both win their elections though, it will demonstrate that there's no downside to Democrats calling their GOP opponents bigots.

These rainbow heart socks have been sitting in my shop for a while waiting for someone to take them home. I think it's just cause they're a size small, but surely one of you knows a queer child who might like them? I ALSO sell this as a knitting pattern! ko-fi.com/s/469a3547e4 #BSNM #pride

Ohhh... so, is this why pre-decimal European money worked the way it did? Decimals don't make sense in a ratio world? (Basically the only book I've read on the history of measurement is Hasok Chang's amazing Inventing Temperature; frantically googling)
A short excerpt from Jim Tolpin and George Walker's By Hand and Eye: "The language of the artisans was all about finding, generating and laying out whole-number ratios with a compass and straightedge. They were not using rulers to work to arithmetic derivations of a numbered measurement. So while using a scale based on one to 10 works fine to resolve numerical formulas, you do often end up with decimal fractions of a whole number. That would require an artisan to lay out to a numbered ruler – not to mention having to deal with decimal places. Another downside in using base-10 is that 10 doesn’t readily break down in whole-number fractions: You are limited to 1/5 and 1/2. A one-to-12 scale, on the other hand, gives you 1/6, 1/4, 1/3 and 1/2 – the ratios of which can be easily counted out on one hand (thank you ancient Babylonians) as shown in the drawing below. Note that you use your thumb as the counting cursor."

"Not everyone deserves to live here" is the literal antithesis of how San Francisco was founded. The city exists because of the tens of thousands of people from all over the world who flooded in over a few decades during the Gold Rush and stayed to build something.

Wabarakatuhu, Yesterday on October 11th 2026, a fire destroyed my father's store, located at 1300 E Franklin Ave in Minneapolis
MN. 22 years of hard work, a source of pride and his livelihood gone. This store represented countless sacrifices, memories, and dreams that cannot easily be replaced.
My father, Abdullahi Said Omar, is more than a business owner; he is a kind and dedicated pillar of our community who has touched many lives. Seeing him face such a devastating loss is absolutely heartbreaking.

This morning, the federal government turned the full force of the Department of Homeland Security against a sitting member of Congress for the offense of disagreeing with the White House.

The path to citizenship should not be weaponized against anyone, including Rep. Ilhan Omar, a naturalized American who swore an oath to this country — the same one that I took.

The promise of citizenship should not be contingent on someone agreeing with the federal government.
