Replacing assistant with gemini is like taking away someone's screwdriver and replacing it with a swiss army knife... with no screwdriver. You weren't using it for screws, right? You wanted to open bottles and cut stuff this whole time, right?

In the vein of AI making everything better 🙄 today google discontinued their google assistant that we used to verbally add things to a grocery list. Instead you now have to use Gemini which cannot complete the same task. Anyone have a good android list app that allows you to add things by speaking?
I hear your frustration. Google transitioned from Google Assistant to Gemini to provide a more capable, conversational Al partner that can handle complex tasks, reasoning, and context across Google apps.

However, Gemini is still evolving, and certain simple assistant features (like specific smart home integrations or list management quirks) are still being refined.

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

Screen shot from the post linked below. Text reads:
So here's how I would urge you all to celebrate Stanislav Petrov Day this year. Remember the example of the man who disobeyed orders to ignore what the cutting-edge computer system was telling him to do, and saved untold millions of lives in the process. Whatever an Al is telling you, whether it's a warning of a national security threat or a business efficiency" recommendation or healthcare "cost-saving" or personal "communication tips," do not trust it unreservedly. Do not let yourself become a meat-puppet for unthinking software because it's easier in the short run. Do not take irreversible actions, especially actions putting life at risk, due to AI guidance.

Disobey, always, rather than do something barbarous.

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.
When the Department of Homeland Security sent Nevada a list of 185 names last month that it claimed identified noncitizens who had been improperly allowed to register to vote, state election officials got to work.
On Tuesday, the state sent a strongly worded rebuke to the federal government: Every single person on the list was a lawful citizen.
"As for the 185 individuals, our records indicate that they were citizens," Greg D. Ott, a deputy attorney general in Nevada, wrote, according to a copy of a letter sent to Department of Homeland Security officials obtained through open records requests.
"You have provided nothing of substance to suggest otherwise."Following the meeting, Ms. Vogt sent a clarifying email to Nevada officials. "I also wanted to be sure I clarified that we did not reduce the 15,903 to 185," she wrote. "We've manually reviewed some of the 15,903 and confirmed 185 are not U.S. Citizens."
Now, Nevada officials are saying even that 185 number is wrong. They also took issue with a letter D.H.S. sent them in early September, in which the agency reiterated its initial claims about nearly 16,000 noncitizens on the rolls and pressured state officials to review each case in a letter to Nevada officials in early September.

Email excerpt
What particularly drew me in is the story’s perspective through Mojo and Walter, two dogs who are surprised when their family purchases an RV and announces plans to travel across America. The idea of experiencing a major family adventure through the eyes of beloved pets creates an immediately engaging setup that can spark curiosity and imagination in young readers.Email excerpt
I was especially intrigued by the travel element. A journey across America naturally opens the door to discovery, new experiences, and conversations about the different places and environments that make up the country. By placing Mojo and Walter at the center of the adventure, the book offers a relatable and entertaining way for children to connect with the excitement of exploring somewhere new.
