all the "RESPECT THE TROOPS HONOR THE TROOPS STAND FOR THEM AND SUPPORT THE TROOPS" stuff the media pushed since 9/11 was a joke. A laugh to them. Every time it collided with whatever it was that Republicans want to do, the troops lose. Trump goes to soldiers' graves and laughs at them!

The Recurring Speed Camera Discourse is a bit exasperating really because, look, we all know what's actually happening is people just want to be able to commit the pertinent crimes and don't like being punished for it, but people come up with obvious post-hoc pseudo-woke rationalisations for this.

Still can’t over the fact that the president of the United States just told an entire state to pound sand after getting cyberattacked by a foreign adversary because they didn’t vote for him and it was treated like a Tuesday lol

This sick fuck lives in NYC, and I just don't understand how anyone can go outside every day and see the children playing and respond with this kind of vitriol, and I simply reject the values of any society or philosophy or ideology that cannot condemn that unreservedly.

Obviously the human toll is what matters. But here's a question I keep thinking about. The bulk of the SCOTUS docket is business stuff. If they are now openly reinterpreting the law on days that end in Y, how can anyone have confidence in the rule of law in America, including corporate interests?

this is very similar to way transphobia and lot of other things work now. you get like 7 soulless morons in a room who all agree to start writing about the same stupid idea, and then like a year later they all start saying "wow look at all people who have this same concern, can't be a coincidence"

We are ruled by the Council of Nine. They rule for life & are completely unaccountable. Their agent, the president, is empowered to enact their will but will be placed on a short leash when he displeases them. Congress can raise and appropriate funds the president can use or not to his liking.

SCOTUS waiting until the last possible moment to release their birthright opinion as some kind of exercise in drama is extremely annoying. underrated reform is just to mandate a day when they release all of the opinions.

the way it works is that if i say, "i'm a black american," sam alito thinks that is "dividing people up by race." but if someone says, "get that jigaboo out of my country," alito thinks, "looks like nothing to me"

NPR has a similar MO. If there is a political panel discussion there will be at least two Republican operatives in the group but the Democratic viewpoint will be one lone person represented by the most weak-sauce of debaters who isn’t even part of the party.

A particular characteristic of the US press is that it runs in narrative cycles, and breaking them of those cycles is nearly impossible. When Hortman was killed, the press was already pushing "growing violence on the left," and so basically just chose to ignore the implications of her assassination.
