Again: for Black Women, in particular, the ability to chose, a time and place to reproduce is a function of liberty. The most fundamental fact of enslavement was the Black Women had no control over their reproduction; in fact, their ability to reproduce was a key source of other’s wealth.

Let this sink in. Cornell University refused to refund Jane Doe's tuition the semester she was raped. Without this money, she could not transfer to another school. Essentially, she was forced to stay on campus where she saw those seven rapists frequently. Eventually she dropped out of college.

this story is nuts — UNC Health briefly adopted BidShift, a platform that has nurses bid against eachother for hard-to-fill shifts, so that the hourly premium rate (already substantially lower than it was pre-pandemic) keeps dropping. It pivoted after backlash.

AI didn’t “go rogue.” People connected a computer system they know can mess with another computer system in unpredictable ways to less advanced computer system and it messed with that computer system in unpredicted ways. As @tressiemcphd.bsky.social argues, don’t lose sight that *people* did that.

A former unnamed case manager told Stat that a supervisor directed her to immediately restart a case review process for any patient who won an appeal. “And 99.9 percent of the time, we’re going to turn right back around and issue another [denial],” the former case manager said. “Well, you won, but OK, what’d that get you? Three or four days? You’re going to get another [denial] on your next review, because they want you out.”

Republicans, in their infinite wisdom, left a big gambling loophole in the Medicaid work requirements. I'm no fan of the gambling industry, but if you are on Medicaid and struggling to deal with the work requirements, taking a $580 bet on both sides of an outcome is one way of getting around them.
