I do enjoy sending this email.
Dear Editorial Office,

Thank you for the review invitation. At the moment, I’m not doing reviews for journals that permit the use of so-called “AI tools” in manuscript preparation.

All the best,

Key to understanding how academia operates today, from Bifo Berardi
But once intellectual labor becomes a directly productive function, once scientists become workers applied to the machine of cognitive production, and poets workers applied to advertising, the machine of imaginative production, there is no universal function to be fulfilled anymore. Intellectual labor becomes a part of the autonomous process of the capital.

"ALIENATION is the precise and correctly applied word for
describing the major social problem in Britain today.
People feel alienated by society. In some intellectual
circles it is treated almost as a new phenomenon. It
has, however, been with us for years. What I believe
to be true is that today it is more widespread, more
pervasive than ever before. Let me right at the outset
define what I mean by alienation. It is the cry of men
who feel themselves the victims of blind economic forces
beyond their control. It is the frustration of ordinary
people excluded from the processes of decision making.
The feeling of despair and hopelessness that pervades
people who feel with justification that they have no
real say in shaping or determining their own destinies.
Many may not have rationalised it. May not even
understand, may not be able to articulate it. But they
feel it."

Austrian-Argentine psychoanalyst Marie Langer (1910-1987) on addressing class and gender relations within psychoanalysis:
Certainly, when faced with a working-class male patient, I would say that along with the consciousness of his
psychic conflict, he must also acquire class consciousness. And this did not mean, as a mental health goal, to
work better or more for his boss, but instead for his own interests, for example, the union. And what was said for the male worker also applies to the woman: beyond her
class belonging she should become aware of her submission to the man, her excessive dependence on love,
an expression of lack of self-esteem, and an important goal of her analysis would be to gain dignity. In general
terms, I would add to the concept of treatment (from classical psychoanalysis) what Freud suggests when he talks about the need to transform an autoplastic attitude
into an alloplastic one ... This implies a dialectical game with oneself, in which the subject can adapt reality
to its needs but also know how to adapt to it. This can be
compared to Marx's formula that we are in the world in order to transform it.

I'm currently reading about how leaders of psychoanalytic institutes made a conscious move towards 'political neutrality' to survive under fascist governments in 1930s. I'm reminded of this upcoming National Academy of Sciences workshop platforming a Trump official and a The Free Press podcaster.

I wonder if mainstream commentators will make the connection between making US economy less reliant on imports and preparation for war with China. I'm guessing not since it might be seen as left wing hysteria. Incidentally, this is the economic playbook Germany followed prior to WW2.
In mid-1932, Gottfried Feder, the NSDAP’s chief economic “theoretician”, summed up the basis of Nazi employment creation measures as the “switch from the liberalistic capitalist economy to a national economy striving toward rational (vernünftige) autarky”.33 In simple terms, the belief was that Germany exported to import and that if Germany produced more of the imported products at home, it would also be able to reduce its level of exportation. In other words, the task of the government’s economic policy was therefore not “to develop world trade”, but “to expand and consolidate its national domestic economy”.34

I wish people would stop saying the tariffs are being put in place for no reason. There is a reason. Germany pursued a similar policy in 1930s to make their economy "self-reliant" and dependent on the state in expectation that they'd eventually be at war.

Trump's tariffs are reminiscent of 1930s German economic policy to create a nationally "self-sufficient" economy. As I understand it, this was done to prepare Germany for war and to increase state control over German business.

As late as 1992 Christians were 90% of Americans. That figure has dropped by a third. There's no word for noticing your hegemony, that is your utter unquestioned social domination, slipping away so they call it persecution. It's the noticeable existence of others. www.pewresearch.org/religion/202...
Graph showing percent of Christians, other religions and unaffiliated by year in US from 1972 to 2017. The percent of Christians hovers around 90 until 1992 and steadily falls to 63 by 2017, being replaced principal by unaffiliated.
