Assuming electoral reform isn't passed in this parliament, Labour, Lib Dems and Greens should have identical manifesto proposals. They can add variations, but the core should be the same. If the three collectively win over 50% of seats or votes, they have a clear mandate for change.

No matter how good Burnham’s speech was - without stricter laws on foreign media ownership, crack-downs on politically owned TV channels, and stricter laws on social media marketing, the end result will still be akin to peeing in the wind.

One interesting consequence of Burnham’s truth-telling today on Brexit, and plan to set out what I hope will be a path to rejoin, is that Farage will be forced back onto what is now - funnily enough - his least favourite subject. Let’s see him defend his inheritance in detail.

Polanski is still stuck in student politics mode. The Government isn’t “going after pensioners”. Burnham just announced the best possible outcome for older people: a care system that doesn’t strip pensioners of everything they have. Oh yes, and also took State pension out of taxation.

Refreshing in its honesty, bravery and authenticity. Burnham is right to take on the 40 yrs of privatisation & deindustrialisation orthodoxy that has dogged the country since Thatcher. At last we have a leader who knows how to make and frame a political argument.

If Burnham goes to the country in 2029 with ready-to-implement proposals on a National Care Service, rejoining the EU and proportional representation, together with something compelling on transport and climate, to be honest it's hard to see him not winning a majority.

Interesting to see Burnham talking about free universal social care. The cost of £18bn has been mooted but with the savings for the NHS could reduce that substantially. I can envisage nursing & care facilities that provide a pathway from hospital to independent & semi-independent living for example.
