"UK households almost £3k worse off 5 yrs into cost of living crisis". Imagine how bad it is for pensioners! With 4m pensioners in poverty, why is the triple lock being cut?? How are they supposed to live off £12.5k - only HALF the minimum wage!! www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/cost-of...

UK households 'almost £3,000 worse-off' five years into cost-of-living crisis
The damning report comes as Andy Burnham promises 'breathing space' for families in the upcoming Budget

Burnham tells us Triple Lock must go because it's unsustainable. We’ve heard this before. Women’s pension age rose from 60 to 65, then pension age to 66 and now 67, then 68 - each time justified to keep pensions "sustainable". Why are people accepting this? #apathy #boiledfrogs

Good explainer from Richard Murphy. The State Pension (inc Triple Lock) isn't the issue. The blanket tax relief everybody inc the ultra wealthy enjoy on pension contributions could, if adjusted, deliver £bn's in extra treasury funds. Rich, rw media & gov't... silence. youtu.be/BfcjgWXk36c

The OAP triple lock isn’t a problem. The cost of pension tax relief is.

The problem is that having committed to scrapping the triple lock, if the care service doesn't materialise (I'm sceptical) the triple lock will never return. Shouldn't have to have less pension to get care.

V disappointed in Burnham scrapping triple lock. Everyone sat by while pension age increased, now they are doing the same with triple lock. 1.6m pensioners live in poverty. Noone in favour of scrapping triple lock will ever have to live off state pension. It is less than HALF MIN WAGE! #TAXTHERICH

The people who vote for Reform either don't believe this will happen, think it won't affect them, or will ignore it because their racism is more important to them. So yes, many of them are stupid enough.

In the last two three I've had two knee replacements - that's one on each leg for MAGA - costing me nothing thanks to our wonderful NHS, dating back more than 70 years to the great Nye Bevan. America desperately needs a Nye.

What I haven’t seen mentioned yet is that yes, the system bankrupts people but people who don’t have anything to be bankrupted of, die. When I was a kid I remember friend’s parents dying because they couldn’t afford chemo or meds for treatable conditions. This still happens in the US ☹️

dont let them take it away from you.. healthcare SUCKS in the US. you DO NOT want our model... and dont let them tell you they cant afford your universal healthcare.. if there's enough for your military, for any subsidies to corporations or banks, there's enough to take care if the people.

like maga, they won't believe it until it happens to them. you probably cant change their minds, so you have to overwhelm them at the voting booth. crush the idea while it's still just an idea cause once the insurance industry gets access to a new a revenue stream, they're not likely to give it up.

Get ready for medical bankruptcies, and poverty for retirees when they sell their homes and empty their bank accounts to pay those emergency medical bills when insurers refuse to cover care.
