1/ 1318 meetings with fossil fuel lobbyists in Mark Carney’s first year in office. Another summer of Canada burning. It’s clear whose interest this pipeline is actually in, and it sure isn’t Canadians'.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Mark Carney stand in front of workers in hard hats, smiling. News headline text: Carney designates West Coast pipeline as national interest project. 'National' struck out and replaced with corporate.

Pedestrians are more likely to be killed by heavier cars – and even more so if the vehicle is taller, Australian-first research has found.

At this point I’m almost wondering if a Conservative minority government would’ve been less harmful, if only because they’d be less effective at implementing the same policies. The pushback would be louder, there’d be checks and balances. But Carney is bulldozing Canada with conservative reforms…

When the government claims TMX is mega profitable (Tim Hodgson keeps saying $1 billion a year), remember that we BOUGHT IT for $34 billion. So it won’t be profitable for *34 years* at this rate, and that’s if oil demand doesn’t decline! (It will!) It very likely will NEVER be profitable:
IISD writes: “The TMX pipeline is not recouping its costs. Because the tolls charged to the oil industry do not cover the full project costs, Canadian taxpayers could end up subsidizing oil shipments by between CAD 8.7 billion and CAD 18.8 billion, or up to CAD 1,255 per household, over the life of the project.”

Mark Carney is undermining the rule of law is with various pieces of legislation that let politicians unilaterally declare exceptions to various laws. So Canada is becoming a place where the current government picks and chooses where, when, & to whom our laws will or won't apply. 🧵1/
Canadian prime minister Mark Carney stands in front of four images.

In the top left corner behind Carney we see two business executives looking chummy together in a well lit corporate office. Text overlaying the image says "Bill C-15." A word bubble emerging from Carney's mouth clarifies part of what that legislation permits: "Cabinet can choose corporations to be exempt from having to follow federal laws."

In the bottom left behind Carney we see uniformed Canadian Border Patrol Agents, with text overlaying the image that says "Bill C-12." A word bubble emerging from Carney's mouth identifies a problem with that legislation: "Politicians can revoke groups' immigration status without oversight or due process."

Behind Carney on the right we see two more images. On the top, cooks are prepping ingredients in a kitchen. On the bottom, a man in a hazmat suit sprays a cloud of pesticides. Text overlaying the intersection point between the two images says "Bill C-30." A word bubble emerging from Carney's mouth specifies part of what's in that particular piece of egregious legislation: "Cabinet can override food safety guidelines and authorize use of banned pesticides."

It was a gigantic bait-and-switch: Mark Carney, the supposed enviro-friendly central banker (no, that makes no sense) would both stand up to the Trump regime — Elbow’s Up, all! — and save us from the scourge that would no doubt be a Poilievre Conservative government.
