'Aerodrome.' (1941) Eric Ravilious had often depicted the back gardens and greenhouses of middle-class pre-war England. The positioning of the war plane, flags and aerodome at the back of this composition is a deliberate device to minimise the destructive reality of the war.

"“we are all, well many of us, are certainly immigrants to some extent. My name’s an unusual one but I think my ancestors just caught an earlier boat than other people’s. This country’s been built by great immigrants" Robert Jenrick's first national campaign in Newark, 2014 byelection
In 2014, Jenrick entered parliament as, in the words of one Tory adviser, a ‘parody-level Cameroon blandy’. Or in the words of his former ally and mentor, former arch-Remainer Tory MP Anna Soubry, a ‘full-fat subscriber to David Cameron’. Nickie Aiken, the former Tory MP and leader of Westminster City Council, said: “I was quite surprised how militant he became as immigration minister as he has always been centrist”. He won the Newark by-election in 2014 by urging Labour and Lib Dem supporters to lend him their votes to stop the ‘extreme’ UKIP from winning. In that by-election, he said: “we are all, well many of us, are certainly immigrants to some extent. My name’s an unusual one but I think my ancestors just caught an earlier boat than other people’s. This country’s been built by great immigrants.” His idol Ken Clarke - the Europhile Tory grandee who represented the neighbouring Rushcliffe - was put on his election literature. Commenting on his victory, the young Jenrick said: ‘You win elections at the centre.’ Two years later, in 2016, he campaigned for Remain alongside Clarke. Jenrick even signed a letter ahead of the EU referendum, along with 16 other MPs, denouncing ‘Farage’s Britain’ as ‘angry, intolerant, limited [and] sepia-coloured’.

Oh aye, wildlife on British coinage "is a denial of history", is it now?
A heap of farthings from 1941, all of them showing a rather evil looking wren. For clarity, that's the bird, not the Royal Navy's feminine side. Of course in 1941 the sort of person now trying to turn this into a culture war would be happier trying to change British coinage into something more... Reichsmark shaped.

Why on earth does this BBC piece on Burnham telling an interviewer the UK security services confirmed Russian interference in the Brexit referendum require a response from a pro Brexit pressure group? It's literally our Prime Minister telling us about election security. It's nothing to do with them.
The prime minister told The Rest is Politics podcast that upon arriving in No 10, he had asked about possible Russian interference in the 2016 vote, adding: "I've had the clear answer that, yes, there was."

"I think we've been too much on the back foot on that actually and we haven't informed people sufficiently about the extent to which people are seeking to disrupt the political process from overseas," he added.

Burnham did not provide further details about the type or extent of Moscow's activity during the Brexit referendum.

Britain Unbound, a pro-Brexit campaign group, said Burnham's comments were "another crude attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the decision that the British people made in 2016".

It said that foreign interference in UK elections was "obviously unacceptable" but added: "There is no good reason to believe that Russian intervention influenced the outcome of the referendum in 2016.
