I’m of the opinion we go with Mass Effect rules when it comes to naming AI.

Virtual Intelligence (VI) is a sophisticated program designed to make modern computer systems easier to use. They are not to be confused with artificial intelligences like the geth, as VIs are only utilised to assist the user and process data. Though they appear to be intelligent, they aren't actually self-aware, just made with clever programming. This greatly reduces the risk of a VI exceeding the bounds of its intended function or rebelling against the control of its creators and users, though it doesn't eliminate it.

I think that’s my only gripe. They might eventually come out ahead but there’s almost always tax exemptions as part of the deal which cancels out the benefit.

I get that. But presumably there’d have to be some application process for a grocery store too. Selling groceries at a loss to everyone would quickly get unsustainable otherwise.

Ok but if the problem is hunger, why not use direct assistance instead of undercutting existing grocery stores? It seems like they’re meant to help food deserts but I think the use case is a little more complex than just feeding hungry people.

I don’t know. I have an Equinox EV and I think the google route planning is super nice. With how variable range can be, it’s nice that it will adjust on the fly. I ignore it on routes I’ve done before though since I have my favorite stops.

This is a constant frustration for me. The slightest loss of convenience becomes a nonstarter for so many people. EVs have the same struggle. People act like charging in 5 minutes is necessary for adoption when it just shouldn’t be.

Yeah I think central AC is often not viable because they often use boilers for heat so no ducts. Mini splits seem like the easiest option for retrofitting.

Just saw Backrooms. Really tense, especially since the “real world” looks just as uncanny as the backrooms. Slight spoiler but I did find it hilarious that they faded out just as they were explaining what the hell was going on.

I think consumer sentiment only becomes useless as a metric if it’s uncoupled from spending. I think the idea is that sentiment acts as a bellwether for future changes in spending. So far, sentiment is absurdly low but people are still spending just as much.

Fascinating video. I drove a RAV4 hybrid for five years and always thought it was two separate powertrains. One other hiccup with the engine that you probably didn’t have time for is that it had to run to heat the cabin as well. I assume there’s some logic programmed for that too.

I’ve got an Equinox EV and a Bolt. It’s been nice getting service at a regular dealership. I know it’s weird that they’re only making it for a year and a half but all of GM’s EVs are built on the same platform so repairs shouldn’t be an issue.

Hard agree. Townhomes are often the best of both worlds. You still get a yard if that’s important to you and a private entrance but a much more efficient use of space. If HOAs really bother you, there are options where I live without them.
