In other words, it is the job of scientists to devise experiments that can test their claims, to always be cautious abt what they are claiming, and to critically evaluate the claims of other scientists. By these well-established standards, no serious science is happening behind Anthropic's claims.

One Dem state executing 3 ppl is why she is wrong tho. AZ should stop executing ppl, full stop. But over the last 10 years since VA executed its last person, those are the only 3 executions carried out by a Dem of 219 total. To claim Dems are CENTRAL (all caps) is absurd

Great piece by Lisa Needham for Aaron Rupar’s Public Notice: Trump meme coin investors, including rich foreigners, have lost $3.81 billion but gained an opportunity to bribe the president of the United States. It’s mindblowingly corrupt.

These should be making their way into national ads run by the Democrats. Republicans think this kind of stuff is popular because the groypers think it shows they're "tough". Ads saying "Republicans want ICE to give electric shocks to children" will hit them where they live.

Trump’s insider trading is, on its own, the worst corruption scandal in US history, with $$$ dwarfing Teapot Dome. So are Trump’s bribes-for-pardons. So is the Qatar bribe plane. So is all the Saudi money he (and Kushner) have pocketed. And the ballroom. And more. Each alone would be the worst.

Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math." At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."
Ukrainian female soldier: Okay, I said the idea is this: There is enough time to empty one full can of 32 grenades and be gone by the time the return mortar fire reaches us. I did the math.

What makes the current dynamic unsustainable is that the rule of law, appearance of propriety, and good governance are all really important. It cannot be the case, however, that only one political party values those things over an extended period of time. There needs to be one set of rules.

And this is almost an aside in the story, but also absolutely bonkers. Meta claimed Zuck as a "researcher" to get a $355 million tax break on his $4.1 billion stock-based compensation.
Screenshot from New York Times article: "Meta is already in one sizable dispute with the I.R.S. over this tax break, for using it to subsidize its chief executive’s multibillion-dollar pay package. In 2013, Meta claimed that $4.1 billion of stock options exercised by Mr. Zuckerberg counted as a research expense because he helped invent new software, such as Facebook’s News Feed. The I.R.S. is trying to claw back the company’s resulting $355 million in tax savings, court filings show."
