Māori media again doing the mahi needed, but often absent from the ‘mainstream’. RNZ had one snippet about this in its politics liveblog, but I’ve seen nothing else (yet). Govt runs on money, people & information. If we don’t have a media paying attention to this third part, we’re in trouble.

Panel 1 is titled “AI Bros:”
An Ai Bro is standing in front of a TV wearing his default expression (SMUG)

Behind him on the TV is the axe scene from American Psycho where Patrick Bateman is wearing the transparent raincoat and standing next to his ridiculous stereo. Except in this image Christian Bale has been replaced by the AI Bro.

AI bro annoyingly says “People want to put themselves in movies”

Panel 2 and 3 are titled “People:”

Panel 2:
A Blue Guy holds his phone up to a Yellow Guy and says “Hey! I’ve got a little video from that party”

Panel 3:
Yellow Guy sees himself on the phone screen and almost cringes himself into a singularity. He is blushing and squeals “Ohh my Goddd. My FACE and VOICE”

All that train usage has led to exactly what businesses want: a surge in foot traffic. A live chart showing pedestrian movements around the city centre shows above-average numbers across almost every site monitored since the CRL opened on September 13.

[my highlight] That chart is available on the website for Heart of the City, an organisation created to advocate for inner-city businesses; it turned down the opportunity to comment for this story.

I wanted to be reasonable, so I went to look at their actual education manifesto to see how they were planning to implement this to recognize, for example, the different needs of primary and secondary students (where secondary usually starts earlier to allow more teaching time before exams) Nothing
The entire relevant section from their National Party education manifesto:

Consistent school dates and more
time learning

National will set consistent school start and finish dates. Parents have told us how frustrating different dates can be, leaving families juggling childcare and taking extra leave from work.

Another seemingly knee jerk policy from National? It fails to consider that different regions, communities and schools have different needs and situations. Also, possibly, that high schools and primary schools have slightly different statutory year lengths.
Facebook post from Erica Stanford
Image features text reading: "All schools to start & finish the year in the same dates"

Post text:
Less juggling for parents. More certainty for families.

National will make sure all schools start and finish the school year on the same dates.

That means easier planning for working parents, childcare and family holidays.

A simple, practical change that puts families first.

A neat way to keep youth unemployment down. You're not unemployed if you have to stay at school for the whole year. It's not about training, skills, apprenticeships, or an education system that meets the needs of students. It's all about marginal juking numbers to make it look like success.
