EVs are awesome. I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5, which has a range of 300-350 miles. I charge it at home, which is convenient, and it costs me about $10 to completely recharge the battery. (84 kWh at 12 cents a kWh) Compare that to a similar size gas car, at 25-30 mpg, which would cost $54 to fill up.

At present, when there's enough wind/solar/nuclear to match Britain's demand, gas is still used, because some gas generators also supply steam for industrial processes. Also gas generators are still used to provide inertia services to the system. www.electricalreview.co.uk/posts/could-...

The UK banned tobacco advertising because we realised it is totally counterproductive to allow companies to advertise products that are killing us, undermining important public health work The same is true of high carbon products and services, fast fashion, gambling, etc. Where Bristol leads... 🤞

We need to stop companies from allowing #AI to self-improve into an uncontrollable level of intelligence. Treat compute, the main ingredient in AI training, like fissile material. Track it and restrict access to quantities large enough to improve AIs beyond known-safe levels.

All the plastic humanity has ever produced is ~10 billion tonnes. Humans emitted ~10 billion tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere in the first three months of 2026. When we appreciate orders of magnitude, we see how intractable the CO₂ problem becomes once we dump it into the atmosphere.

It's really hard to take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere: removing something so dilute is like removing tiny needles from a gigantic haystack, again & again, at huge energy, financial & environmental cost. Very useful thread here on why we can't just assume CO₂ removal is a magic climate pill:
