OK, there is something very, very weird going on in the press right now. It certainly appears, from the outside, as if certain people are being very much protected in a way that was not afforded to certain other people! Let's start with the facts around Lola Salem... 🧵1/

Ministers have repeatedly promised to let communities share & use the renewable energy they generate. I keep asking. They keep promising. But we're still waiting. Community energy projects should benefit the people around them. The Government must set out a clear timeline & get on with it.

This speaks to the deep trouble the Tories are in. Retired military men with a code of honesty & concern for national security used to be core Tory voters. If the party has lost these people, what is its constituency?

So the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition is not going very well They've sold far too many tickets and the space cannot cope with the physical number of people - how did they not do basic crowd flow/control calculations? Embarrassing that the British cannot organise a queue properly (Not my photo)

Slight tangent but I'm constantly told about the appetite from government and public to fill these sorts of shortages from the domestic labour force (and curtail work visas to that end) but, like, I had no idea that there were 40,000 scaffolder vacancies? No discussion of possible remedies etc.

Huh, it's almost like the death of the highstreet is not being caused by individual lifestyle choices but by a grabby class of landlords who'd prefer to squat on property than let it out at lower profit margins or, you know, sell it to someone who actually wants to use it. How unpredictable!

My understanding is that the evidence shows LLM-based assessment gives better 'marks' to LLM-written things (essays, grants etc). So by choosing to use LLM-based assessment, UKRI will likely penalise every academic who actually writes their own grants unassisted. Grim.
