Is there a subtle contrast being drawn between who Labour help and who the Tories help 🤔 #CPC26

Labour was polling a little over 30% when these articles were written. It is genuinely strange that the Conservative Party is not being subjected to the same obituaries by op-ed given its frequent sub-20% polling.

Ouch. That's really not good. What a state. When even the ones you recognise are hopeless, inadequate, nasty or all three it's not great for a democracy that needs an opposition.

The 50,000 prison places? That’s a nice round number to quote. Perhaps they’re being built where the 50,000 nurses, 40 new hospitals and nationwide gigabit broadband were meant to go. Tories love an infrastructure promise, especially one with a catchy number. Put Lord Grayling on it… #r4today

I really shouldn't listen to Ferrari, but it helps with morning procrastination. But occasionally a caller like Joshua, highlights Farage's ignored corruption, how he's widely disliked, and full of shit. Even how far Ferrari is up his fundament. Joyous moments.

The perfect way to put it. They found a way to worm a subscription between you and your normal work.
A screenshot of a post on Threads by Joe Hill. The post reads: "Here’s a thought about the purveyors of AI. They aren’t selling assistance—they’re selling dependency. You give up on acquiring one skill after another, give up on the knotty, meaningful struggle to acquire those skills and AI takes over. It isn’t freeing up time so you can make more of yourself. It’s encouraging cognitive surrender so you can be less."

@lbc.co.uk Great speech, but perhaps reel in the deity making. He's just a man with a very, very difficult job and so far very little substance. He's not a messiah, he's not a king and we all must hope he's not a naked emperor.

Didn't have time to watch Burnham's speech. From reading BS: best political speech ever, he's the King. FB/X: word salad cliches. But doesn't actually matter because actions are now needed not endless slogans and words. He needs to just get on with the job and do it well.

Plenty of ambition, not a lot of detail: my SKETCH of Andy Burnham's speech. thecritic.co.uk/more...
So it is not to question the prime minister’s evident sincerity to note that Burnham has the Boris Johnson quality of needing to tell his audience exactly what they want to hear. And he knows how to do it: his speech in Liverpool brought delegates to their feet cheering again and again. Small details like “what will all this cost?” and “how will it actually work?” were cast aside as the prime minister described the promised land into which he will take us. The comparison with his Tory predecessor offers a contrast too: Johnson delighted in being a naughty boy, whereas there are hints that Burnham thinks he’s the Messiah.

Before the speech we were played a video of ordinary people talking about “the first time I met Andy”. “Andy’s given me hope,” someone said. Have you invited Andy into your life as your leader and prime minister? The celebrity astronomer Brian Cox came and sat near us. An expert on the largest things in the universe, he’d come to see for himself the Burnham ego.

The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

Woke up thinking how disgraceful, stupid and wrong Farage and Reform were with their misinformation. Saw clips of Farage's car crash interview on Sky. See clips of him banning the balaclava and few days later supporting Captain Thugwash. It's over, how can it not be? Listens to Ferrari. That's how.

I can't be the only one in the country who has had enough of meaningless slogans. It's not the "department of hope" it's the department of education. Hope is nothing tangible, education is substantive. Johnson broke slogans. I feel so sorry for teachers, this is just inane 💩.

I don't think the emperor is wearing any clothes. Yet being cheered by some to excess. 2029 for reforms to care is far, far too late. The remarks on the cosplay paramilitaries were very tepid and weak, with still no RNLI support. Very disappointing.

In fact, these are scenes we have not seen on British streets. Immigration needs to be deal with, I will be the first to say that and we are dealing with it. The boat crossings have been halved since six years ago, net migration is down massively.

I've never liked Burnham, nothing has changed that position, but to suggest he's so stupid that he'll call an election is just too far. He's clearly not an idiot. A non 🦇💩 misogynist reform Makerfield candidate could trouble him, plus buzz to oust second Labour PM. His ego won't allow that.

Nothing brings the British people together across age, race and class more than their hatred of injustice – the misuse of power against the powerless.
