Found this when I was at home in Wexford last week. It was in a bag of old coins left by a friend of my father's. I found a blog about defaced Irish coins saying that they were once common in Dublin! Does anyone know anything about them? 1/2

Next year the NFC will relocate from the Newman Building, where the collection has been held since the 1970s, to a new Cultural Heritage Centre. To ensure safe transfer of the collection, in-person services will be reduced starting in Sept 2026. See www.ucd.ie/irishfolklor... for full details.

Ballintoy C of I church in Co. Antrim today. The square bell tower with its interesting crenellations (which are what caught my eye) is an earlier C17th-century structure kept during the church's 1813 rebuild. Another building on the long list of buildings to visit.

As an Irish person, who loves music (& is emphatically not a Tory), I love the Proms. It is a good thing. In my 20s & 30s, I was a regular attendee. Great music, great performers, great atmosphere. I've heard music live there that I have never had the opportunity to elsewhere. Long may it continue.

I've seen posts hoping for a cororner's inquest following Prof. Arday's death as a means of holding the media and others to account. I don't know the law in the UK, but here in Ireland, an inquest is required following a death by suicide. An inquest is a traumatic experience for loved ones. 1/3

I took the bus to Italy in my student days & stayed with a friend who was living in Bergamo for a year. We visited Padua & saw this chapel in the distance as we walked from the train, not knowing what it was. We went in. It was just after the restoration was completed. I'll never forget the colours!
