Toronto has 5500 linear km of roadways. Protected bike lanes now occupy about 1/4 of the space on 110 km of them. That is 0.5% of the city's road space. If cyclists are 0.5% of all traffic citywide, they're getting their fair share. In fact they are much more numerous.

In Toronto we've watched police ignore traffic violations for many years (they even lied about enforcing traffic laws - with no consequences) so this is basically the renaissance painting of the Toronto condition.

One thing about people citing slower car travel times on Bloor West following the bike lane install is, well, that was kind of the point. Drivers were **averaging** nearly 20 km/h over the current speed limit at spots. Road revamp has brought speeds closer to limit. www.toronto.ca/wp-content/u...
Two bar charts comparing average and 95th percentile vehicle speeds in km/h across five Toronto locations over three time periods (2021/23, 2024, 2025/26), with a posted speed limit of 40 km/h indicated by a dotted line.

In the end, privatizing Canada’s airports doesn’t solve any of the problems we face. Instead it risks making air travel even more expensive and less pleasant. And Canadians would be giving up democratic control over a critical public asset for generations. www.thespec.com/opinion/cont...

This stairway at the Dundas St Don Valley Bridge is a great example of cycling infrastructure that was designed and built by people who will never use it. The narrow ramp is supposedly to allow bikes to be wheeled up the stairs easily. It's useless: too close to the rail, pedals get stuck.
Brand new set of stairs leading to ghe Don Valley bike trail.
