It’s been two years since Ontario Place West Island was destroyed for a planned private spa. Hundreds of trees were cut down - here’s a snapshot of the many species who lost habitat. 🧵
Side-by-side comparison of a landscape on the Toronto waterfront. In one scene, an island is covered in trees reflected in a still channel of water. The other image of the same place shows a barren stretch land with a pile of rubble in the centre.

Brilliant hearing @emilyrcwilson.bsky.social speaking tonight - on the familiar, the strange, and the strangely familiar, and the myriad of choices facing the translator. There was discussion of one word for 10 minutes - I could have listened for an hour more (which is why I recommend this book)
Holding up Crossing The Wine-Dark Sea by Emily Wilson, which has a bookmark from Another Story bookstore in Toronto. Emily Wilson speaks with Ella Street about Crossing the Wine-Dark Sea at the Toronto reference library. On a projector are lines from the Odyssey in Greek, the 1961 translation by Robert Fitzgerald, and Wilson’s 2017 translation. The two modern translations are compared.
