Support for sovereignty is at long-time lows. The PQ’s mandate will be thin. I doubt they’ll actually call a referendum unless something dramatic changes. We’re still in for a ride.

This bike race illustrates three types of Montrealers: 1) the people who like happenings; 2) the people who prefer normal city life; 3) the people who pick 1) or 2) depending if they align with the event (ie: fast cars v. fast jets v. fast bikes.) Me, I’m a 2 who just grinds thru all the 1s.

I'm starting to get quite specific, relevant pitches from writers with gmail addresses and links to a couple of online publications, but that are kind of dubious in this way. It's a shame because it means it's harder for genuine new writers to get looked at amid the dross.

Small sample, but the hockey association in east-central Montreal is breaking registration records. So I’m not sure hockey is doomed. But I think there is increasing rejection of the insane lengths and expense people face in elite hockey. Which probably means big talent goes undeveloped. +

Alright, I realize this website is not going to be full of Stephen Harper fans. But for him to stand up before the global finance community and say this is seismic.
He said he believes Ottawa had no choice but to walk away from the bargaining table with Washington – and he says that as a long-time admirer of the U.S.

But he said that for Canada to maintain its sovereignty, it must pursue diminished reliance upon the United States.

“There will be significant costs to this effort,” Harper said, but he added he believes they are costs that Canadians are prepared and willing to accept. He didn’t elaborate on what those costs are.
