But women in Piddington are quite literally being told by the Leader of the Opposition that they should fear for their LIVES and that never leaving the house after dark is a reasonable precaution! This isn't protecting them. This is seriously damaging them. 11/

85% of rapes are perpetrated by men known to the victim. We are not "protecting women" by pretending the asylum seekers are the threat. Women are no more or less in danger from an asylum seeker than they are from their boss, the Tesco delivery man, or the pub landlord. 10/
A bar graph shows the relationship of sexual assault victims to their perpetrators, comparing data between males and females in England and Wales.
43.2% of perpetrators are the partner or ex-partner of the victim. 37.8% of perpetrators are someone known to the victim other than a partner or family member and only 15% were assaulted by a stranger.

Just one man charged. Which got national press coverage - understandably. But did any of the other 739,000 sexual assaults that happened in England and Wales that took place that year get national media coverage? No - you ONLY hear about it if the perpetrator is an asylum seeker. 9/
Data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales highlights 900,000 sexual assault victims, with a significant gender disparity in reported cases. 739,000 females aged 16 years and over experienced sexual assault in the year ending March 2025.

There is NO evidence that asylum seekers pose a particular risk to women. There is NO data showing they are any more dangerous than any other man. And no, memes and random highly manipulated graphs on social media don't count! Every time a claim surfaces suggesting otherwise, it is debunked🤷‍♀️

8/ You could flip it and say that as warming worsens our capacity to cope shrinks, so each extra fraction matters even more. True. But that's cold comfort, and mostly a reason never to get there.

7/ So early cuts pay off far more than late ones. A tonne avoided now saves more harm than a tonne avoided in 2040, because it keeps us further from thresholds we can't uncross and chains we can't break.

6/ The longer we wait, the harder action itself becomes. Warming weakens natural carbon sinks, so stabilising takes more effort at higher temperatures. Climate harms can also derail mitigation and adaptation, through disaster costs and political disruption. More warming, more of that risk.

5/ Eg. 3. A town floods. Rebuild once & it recovers. Flood it again before the recovery finishes and insurers leave, values fall & the tax base shrinks, so there's less money for defences before the next one. Later action means more events landing on a place already weakened by the last.

4/ Eg.2 The Amazon. Warming means more drought & fire. The forest loses trees, so it makes less of its own rain & dries further. Wait long enough & it flips from carbon sink to carbon source, feeding the warming that started it. Cut early & the chain never closes. Cut late and it works against you

3/ Example one. At 1.5C a heatwave in a drought strains the grid and some crops fail. At 2C the same event runs hotter and longer. Rivers drop below what power plants need, blackouts hit during peak heat, food prices spike, and the people least able to cope lose cooling just when they need it most

2/ Climate harms are nonlinear and they compound. Some are irreversible. Some show hysteresis, meaning once you cross a line, getting back is far harder than getting there was. Physical and social tipping points turn a little extra warming into a lot of extra harm.
