🥳 UK economy grew more than thought in the second quarter. • GDP +0.5% qq versus a previous estimate of +0.4% (same with GDP per head) • Strong business investment growth (see 👇) • Current account balance (exc. precious metals) smallest in 5 years at 1% of GDP thanks to services exports

A bit like net migration figures being lower, the fact that UK economic growth has been higher than expected cuts against the narrative but can’t be ignored forever. Maybe (probably) I was wrong and Labour did have a theory of growth after all.

I would 100% support a law that says if any digital platform removes your access to media you paid for then they are required to refund you the entirety of the original purchase price. That would solve this whole thing in a hurry.

Hahahaha. Farage now whining that he was badly advised by his overpaid team into calling his stupid by-election. Confirming then that he’s incapable of working it out for himself. Too busy counting his money. Honest to god, Clacton. Don’t be the constituency dunces he needs you to be. (Times)
One senior source said they believed Farage had been poorly advised over calling the by-election in Clacton.
They said that "young advisers" around Farage had not checked whether the standards' commissioner's investigation would continue in the event of the by-election and they had incorrectly assumed it would not. They also criticised "massive salaries" paid to staff who they said were "letting Nigel down".

Very obliging of #r4today to lead with Reform’s ‘plan’ to stop the boats using the Royal Navy, pretending it’ll be some great WWII-style escapade, rather than a hateful, costly, diplomatically incontinent mess. A total waste of everyone’s time as they’ll never be in power and it’s unworkable anyway.

I’m sorry, but what is ‘radical’ about the policies pursued by Miliband?
Miliband's promotion of radical net zero policies has earned him enemies among some trade unions, with Sharon Graham, general secretary of Unite, saying his appointment to the Treasury would be a "noose around job creation"

It is mad that we have, somehow, allowed net zero - a policy common to all major parties under 5 years ago and supported by a majority of the public - to become a synoym for mad radicalism. It is doubly mad that we've allowed this to happen during the hottest summer on record.
