The only time I ever fought with a professor was over Lichtenstein: my 20th C. art history prof couldn’t let go of the idea that Lichtenstein inherently “elevated” the work he copied by refining it for wealthier tastes, and couldn’t wrap his head around the idea of comics as a respectable art form.
