Recent photo at the NHS. Over 6 years into #COVID, and we still have “wash your hands” under “AIRBORNE PRECAUTIONS.” We are failing hard to communicate one of the most basic lessons of this pandemic: Airborne means spread through the AIR. Clean air is infection control. #Airborne #PublicHealth #NHS

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

This is shameful discriminatory and misogynistic reporting. People aren’t choosing disability to be “cool”. Young women don’t have to “prove” to you that they’re sick. Disability rates are skyrocketing because we’ve left a disabling virus rip through the population for over 6 years.

did bluesky hear about Miss Teen Indiana’s Garfield costume
A young woman in a Garfield inspired outfit with a Garfield headdressThe young woman from the first photo is holding a lasagna that says “lasagna my love language”missinteenusa Tonight, Indiana is going Garfield!
My state costume celebrates one of Indiana's most iconic creations-Garfield, created by fellow Hoosier Jim Davis.
Born in Marion and raised in Fairmount, Davis turned an orange cat with a big personality into a character recognized and loved around the world.
But this costume represents more than a famous Hoosier.
The hand-painted comic panels on my skirt share messages inspired by my initiative, Captivating Confidence:
"Our differences are what make us beautiful."
"If we don't have love, we have nothing."
"Outer beauty attracts, but inner beauty captivates."
To me, true confidence is found in embracing what makes each of us different and recognizing that our greatest beauty comes from within. I am so excited to bring a little Hoosier humor, creativity and confidence to the Miss Teen USA stage tonight!
This one-of-a-kind costume was inspired by my vision and brought to life by Indianapolis-based costume designer, Jess West. @jesswestcostumes

A friend found this clipping in some old files. Haven't seen this before. Mind blown.
Color political cartoon by Danny Hellman from the New York Press dated October 6-12, 1999. In it, Donald Trump and his then wife Marla Maples being shown a model of the White House with many added stories and a shiny gold T on the top, with Taj Mahal towers on the side and flags flying with a T. It is labeled "Proposed White House Renovation." A ghoulish Philip Johnson says, "Granted, It's in violation of several of Washington D.C.'s landmark and zoning codes. But of course as president of the United States..." Trump, licking his lips, says, "It's tremendous, Philip, when do I move in?" The caption beneath is Spectacularly unqualified egomaniac Donald Trump contemplates a White House run"

India: "Study reveals alarming 2.5x surge in cardiac emergencies post-COVID among youngsters" Before the pandemic in 2018–19, patients under 40 made up over 8% of cardiac emergencies. That figure has since escalated more than 2.5x to nearly 21% of cases. Source: archive.md/IPpPy
A screenshot of an online news article from The New Indian Express, updated on August 22, 2026. The headline reads, "Study reveals alarming 2.5x surge in cardiac emergencies post-COVID among youngsters." Below the headline, the subheading states, "Before the pandemic took hold in 2018–19, young patients aged 40 or younger made up just over 8% of total cardiac emergencies."
The article features a photograph of a young woman sitting at a wooden desk in front of a laptop, holding her face in her hands in a gesture of stress or exhaustion. A caption beneath the photo reads: "Medical experts urge young adults to maintain a minimum of 30 minutes of daily physical exercise, eliminate intoxicants, and undergo periodic cardiovascular screenings." The article byline attributes the piece to Ejaz Kaiser.

What follows is the story of Lady Mary Wortley Montagu--and it is one of the most audacious, cinematic & revolutionary stories in medical history. #MedSky It's a 10-part thread--the only way such a story can be told. It was the worst of times in early 18th-century England... (1/10) 🧵
An 18th-century oil portrait of Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (1689–1762), an English aristocrat, writer, and medical pioneer who introduced smallpox variolation to Western medicine. She is depicted seated in an elegant, upright pose against a dramatic backdrop of deep red drapery and an architectural stone pillar. She looks directly at the viewer with a calm, serene, and intelligent expression. Her dark hair is elegantly styled up, accented with small jewels or hairpins. She wears a luxurious teal blue velvet gown trimmed with white fur over a structured, golden-bronze embroidered bodice and a voluminous, shimmering silver-white satin skirt. Her left arm rests casually on a stone ledger, with her hand elegantly draping downward against the red cloth, while her right hand rests gently in her lap. The lighting is soft and focused on her pale complexion and the rich, contrasting textures of her garments. The overall mood is dignified, sophisticated, and authoritative, reflecting her high social standing and intellectual prominence.
