A square of text in the midst of black-and-white lines that reads - sometimes our feelings aren’t actually aligned with our values… in part, that’s why we’re supposed to have a community that can hold when these things are happening so our feelings don’t end up governing how we’re going to live in the world, for everybody, how all of us are going to be governed together.

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

Thinking today about how when I was a kid, "Dolly Parton has big tits" was the go-to, for years, for every comedian and game-show host who needed an easy laugh, and about how she took that from them, made it HER joke, and then powered past them all. In her way, she understood drag deeply and early.
