Putting down a marker that sometime next year, the US will have the kind of full blown, dual sovereignty constitutional crisis that Juan Linz described in The Perils of Presidentialism. It's why impeaching Hegseth has to be a priority for the next Congress.

Fascinating stat considering everyone says they want less horserace and more substantive journalism: When I wrote about how Democrats can talk about trans people in a humane way, I got far less traffic than when I wrote about whether all of the polls are off.
Analytics for an article entitled "Democrats are still trying to figure out how to talk about transgender athletes." It shows that it generated 4 new susbscribers, $60 dollars in estimated revenue increase, 510 total views, 304 recipients and 48.85% of open rate. Analytics on Substack for "Just how far off could the polls be?." It shows 21 new subscribers, $170 in estimated revenue increase, 4,029, 270 recipients and a 53.53% open rate.

Again, a bit of this has existed for a while. I can do traditional oil painting, and quite well--this is something very very few digital artists can do. And that's fine. But digital artists were being disingenuous about how much work the computer could and was doing.

I can run qwen 27B, an open weight model, on my desktop with my 4090 and it is more advanced than the state of the art models a year ago. We could see a similar jump in open weight models in a year and the uncensored versions will be about as good at hacking and illicit actions.

I keep yelling this and I don't care how many people get mad at me! Manchin actually behaved the way a senator should: withholding his vote and using it as leverage in a way to benefit his state. People just didn't like he was from West Virginia. Republican senators give their votes away for free.

In the Cold War, "western" authors sold books behind the Iron Curtain but could not legally (on either side) have the royalties paid to them across borders. You could spend your Polish royalties, e.g., only by showing up in Poland, receiving cash, and spending it locally. Anyway, this is insane.

Washington has open presidential primaries and two years ago I voted in the GOP one to vote against Trump, specifically. Now I get GOP election texts. Anyway if you're wondering who to vote against in the Washington supreme court races, here's who the GOP is endorsing.
Did you know 6 of 9 Supreme Court Justices were appointed by a Democrat Governor?

we have a chance this year to elect 5 objective non partisan judges to the Supreme Court.
Please don't leave the judges off your ballot!

Vote:
 - Scott Edwards Pos No. 1
 - David Stevens Pos No. 3
 - Sean O'Donnell Pos No. 4
 - Dave Larson Pos No. 5
 - Todd Bloom Pos No. 7
