Remember, for the past 5 years Jay Bhattacharya has gone on twitter and Fox News telling people he *would have* handled Covid perfectly, blasting public health at every turn. Now that he’s in power, “don’t blame me” seems to be the theme.
On morale on the NIH campus:
"It's been a tough period, absolutely, and especially ... for me. I arrived the day that the RIF [reduction in force] happened. ... I had nothing to do with it. But in the month I've been here, I think things have turned around pretty significantly.""I don't personally review grant lines and say, 'I cancel this grant. Don't cancel that grant.' That's not what I do. ... There's a process. It's not me personally, but I mean, the best I can tell, most of those were canceled before I even got into office.""Those decisions are not up to me, but I do notice these institutions ought to obey the civil rights laws, and I think eventually they will. ... There's a lot of excellent science that goes on in these places. It's very difficult to do excellent science, though, in a place that doesn't have basic civil rights laws."

💯 There is deep anxiety about oral antibiotics not being “aggressive” enough with a “severe” infection, with the concern about an error of omission rather than commission. Meaning, a bad outcome by doing less outweighs concerns about a bad outcome by doing more. #IDsky

Agree! It is quite a difficult sell when we want to be “aggressive.” Alternatively, IV abx won’t do the job any better than oral if the vascular supply is compromised. IV does not treat arterial insufficiency…. #IDSky
