Authors describe the maturation of a stewardship program over 12 years, demonstrating that handshake stewardship is both effective and sustainable, and that over time the focus shifted from decreased overall days of therapy per thousand patient days towards optimal use. doi.org/10.1017/ash....

Portable medical equipment plays a role in pathogen transmission. In a point-prevalence culture survey in 31 hospitals, 17% of portable devices were contaminated with 1 or more pathogens.
