The dirty secret is that rich people need to live in politically stable regimes in order to keep their wealth. They will piss and moan about taxes, but they will not flee en masse. They like paved roads and not being kidnapped too much.

The last public execution in America was in 1936. A young black man in Kentucky was hanged by a drunk executioner; a news story said "They Ate Hotdogs While a Man Died." Was such an embarrassment that the governor outlawed it 18 months later www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Fort Hood shooter’s execution will be live-streamed, Defense Dept. says
“We’ll make sure that people are able to watch it,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Thursday about the firing squad execution of convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan.

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

I don't really know what to do with these pieces, because: 1. They refuse to used "illegal" & "unconstitutional" & "corruption" in the heds, deks, ledes, or body text 2. They disappear from the front page/headlines within 36 hours & never become THE NARRATIVE, contra EMAILS & BIDEN IS OLD, etc.

The NY Times has repeatedly used the phrase “to heel” in reference to Trump’s crackdown on universities, implicitly clarifying that Trump goal is to establish dominance. And what exactly constitutes this “woke” ideology in higher education?
During the meeting, Mr. Trump repeatedly complained about his administration’s failure to bring Harvard University in particular to heel. The administration has been unable to hammer out a deal with the nation’s oldest and wealthiest university, a central plank of his broader push against “woke” ideology in higher education.

This is one of the more important graphs of the 20th century imo. The "great exception," or the multi-decade trough, and departure from cyclical economic crises, is what capitalist elites have been fighting (explicitly) since the New Deal. They want the New Deal era gone and are doing it.

In my New Deal to Age of Reagan seminar later today, I'll be curious to see how my students react to this passage from Jefferson Cowie's GREAT EXCEPTION (p. 154). The part that got me: "the future was bright, work paid off, and there was tremendous promise for the next generation."
The postwar era...was an extraordinarily good time to be a worker. This was not simply because wages were going up to unprecedented levels and inequality was going down but because the future was bright, work paid off, and there was tremendous promise for the next generation."

Because they're "serious journalists," Maggie and Swan treat DHS' bullshit number about assaults of goons as if it MIGHT BE real. If you can't recognize THIS as propaganda, how much else can't you see for what it is?
The conspiracy Miller described was so vast that it evoked the anti-communist “Red Scare” of the mid-twentieth century. He was not basing his crackdown entirely on a hallucination; data showed there had been a recent uptick in left-wing violence, including an elevenfold increase in physical violence against ICE officers in 2025 compared with 2024, according to the Department of Homeland Security
