Research from New York City notes that newly installed protected bike lanes do more than keep bikers safe--they raise the income of the stores they are in front of.

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

this is all a joke to them because far-right conservatives think that rape is good, and that high status men should be entitled to rape any women around them who are not also already attached to other high-status men. this is their actual ideology

this is why I think “DSA is secular church” as a criticism falls flat, even though I don’t object to the comparison. Church gives a lot of people meaning, purpose, community, and a belief in something greater than themselves. But I’m a godless atheist so that greater thing is socialism 😎😎😎

The Cornell 7 rape scandal is particularly jarring because there was no question of guilt. Many college assault accusations are left open based on disagreements about intoxication, memory, and consent. In this case, Cornell had overwhelming evidence the men were guilty. And they still didn’t care.

May 2025: DoorDash spends $1 million to stop a democratic socialist from winning the mayoralty September 2026: DoorDash reaches a $131.5 million settlement with NYC's democratic socialist administration and admits to massive wage theft This is what's possible when you vote DSA
Following New York City lobbying push, DoorDash spends $1M on Cuomo's mayoral bid

The donation marks the largest of any in the crowded Democratic primary for New York City mayor.Since 2023, more than 200,000 Dashers in New York City were underpaid or paid late under the City’s delivery worker pay rules. These errors were unintentional, but that doesn’t make them acceptable. Dashers should be paid in full, on time, every time. We take full responsibility, and we’re deeply sorry.

We’ve reached a $131.5 million settlement with the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. Every impacted Dasher will receive the amount they are owed, and they’ll be contacted directly with payment details.

We understand the impact of even one missed or late payment. We’ve addressed the issues that caused these errors and made changes to prevent them from happening again.
