Isaiah 1:15-17
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
15 When you stretch out your hands,
    I will hide my eyes from you;
even though you make many prayers,
    I will not listen;
    your hands are full of blood.
16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
    remove your evil deeds
    from before my eyes;
cease to do evil;
17     learn to do good;
seek justice;
    rescue the oppressed;
defend the orphan;
    plead for the widow.

There are 2 types Minneapolis residents. One that remembers “A fully staffed MPD abandoned the city, assaulted press and protesters, incited crowds, made it worse. Generations of city leaders had flinched rather than hold the department accountable.” And one that believes the mayor’s narrative.

How Transit App is removing the mysteries of Twin Cities transit use
The Metro Transit “user experience” is improving, especially for those who keep up with technology like mobile apps.

This is legitimately great news for Metro Transit riders! Thank you, @transit.app & @metrotransitmn.bsky.social
screenshot of an announcement: Metro Transit launches partnership with Transit app. Royale features now available free.

Metro Transit customers now have full access to all the features of the already incredibly helpful Transit app at no cost.

A salient point from one of the greatest to do it.
For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes (Matthew 5). But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course, that's Moses, not Jesus. I haven't heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere. 'Blessed are the merciful' in a courtroom? 'Blessed are the peacemakers' in the Pentagon? Give me a break!

Being a “conservative intellectual” must rule so much. There’s this giant mass of babies that are scared of cities, mad at cartoons, and intimidated by women, and your job is to convince them having those feelings makes them brave warriors for western civilization

31 December 1995. Still the perfect goodbye.
The final Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. The entire page is mostly white as they're in the winter snow. The pair is walking with a sledge, nicely duffled in in scarves, hats, gloves. Calvin delightedly exclaims 'wow, it really snowed las night! Isn't it wonderful?'. Hobbes follows up with 'Everything familiar has disappeared! The world looks brand-new!' -- A new year... a fresh, clean start!' adds Calvin. As they look over the landscape, Hobbes observes 'it's like having a big white sheet of paper to draw on!' -- 'A day full of possibilities!' Calvin affirms. They get ready on their sledge and Calvin tells his friend 'it's a magical world, Hobbes, ol' buddy... let's go exploring!', and the pair sledges off into the wintery landscape.

Minneapolis Times Building on a rainy night, 4th St. S and Nicollet Ave., uncredited photographer, November 1899 Image: Hennepin County Library; digitalcollections.hclib.org/digital/coll...
A black and white image of a misty or foggy night scene, taken at street level. A man stands on the sidewalk in the middle distance looking toward a building with a sign that says “The Times”. Lamp lights glow gauzily along the sidewalk and down the street, reflecting off the damp pavement. There is a U.S. mailbox affixed to a pole in the foreground. I did a Twitter thread a while back on this photo and others that dated it pretty conclusively to Nov 1899 based on some of the posters visible.

Finding out that Lake Superior "Never gives up its dead" because it's so cold that the colonies of bacteria that decompose corpses can't survive in it so those bodies never fill up with gas and surface, all because I looked up the lyrics of a 1976 folk song, is what the internet should be more like.
