More specifically, I've seen a lot of people being like "Megatron getting the Matrix at the end confuses the themes", but I'm pretty confident that the intent of the short is that Optimus was *wrong* to walk away, and Megatron getting the Matrix is there to affirm that!

I think the Optimus Prime: Awakening short film has been done a pretty egregious disservice by marketing that primed people to expect "TFTM epilogue short film", a thing which it is not and is not trying to be, rather than "episode 0 of a larger future story", which is what it clearly actually is.
