I double-checked this on a couple of Xitter stat sites and it's true. Average views of the main AfD account dropped 90% and average engagement dropped by 60%. This is commercial social media for you: bots, damn bots and Russian bots.

The Pride Plaza is back and better than ever! Last year, we repaved the street and updated the curb ramps to be ADA compliant. This year, we painted the street, added furniture and planters, and made sure this is a welcoming space for all.

This is an unconscionable amount of death. The DOGE-related cuts resulted in no reduction in taxes (because whatever meager budget reductions they did make were not sufficient to result in tax reduction) so Musk et al. are killing these people for nothing. Will there be consequences?

your regular reminder that the national shoplifting crisis was a manufactured moral panic largely engineered by corporations in order to cover up their own mismanagement — and that wage theft is the largest category of theft in the U.S.
LA Times headline: "Retailers say thefts are a crisis level. The numbers say otherwise."

I want better transit on powell but many data points to me suggest that the 14, 15 or the 20 are the best subwayification opportunities if we’re looking at SE<->NW routes

Portland bar and club managers talk about "It" happening like medieval Europeans talked about Prester John. Times are bleak now, lads, but one elderly man's failing organs are all that stand between us and 150 million Americans launching a drinking binge.

with every new Avatar movie there's a chorus of critics saying surely the series has lost its juice NOW and then days later the new Avatar has crossed the $1 billion threshold. it doesn't matter if his movies are good or bad, never bet against Big Jim at the box office

One of the biggest drivers of high housing costs is that a small, highly motivated group of incumbent homeowners block new housing in their neighborhoods and almost no one is organized to push back. Young people bear the brunt of that imbalance. Be a housing fan.

reminder that penguins aren't actually penguins
The great auk (Pinguinus impennis), also known as the penguin or garefowl, is an extinct species of flightless alcid that first appeared around 400,000 years ago and became extinct in the mid-19th century. It was the only modern species in the genus Pinguinus. It was not closely related to the penguins of the Southern Hemisphere, which were named for their resemblance to this species.

I know the Wall Street Journal has been getting worse over time, but this blatant lack of journalistic integrity, deliberate fearmongering, and straight up fabrication is insane. Why lie this blatantly when senior officials are directly saying this is not true? Why keep the article up?

This whole article is insane. The same party who routinely claims to the party of guns, freedom, and the Constitution is now seemingly the enemy of all three. I didn't realize the "first they came for" poem in this case would only have two groups, immigrants and then immediately everyone else.

Bursts of white blossoms exploding from the limbs of a tree. The famous salmon sculpture of Salmon Street, mouth open as if arguing, almost as tall as a small man, with a dotting of tiny white round flowers behind as if the fish just spawned or whateverInterlocking escherlike lizardous garden tiles in blue, not pink at all no not pink, and gray, in a front yard where a smol book sat for a short period of time on a stoop. There was a scent of fresh baked cookies and entangled flowers in that place. For a time.
