I double-checked this on a couple of Xitter stat sites and it's true. Average views of the main AfD account dropped 90% and average engagement dropped by 60%. This is commercial social media for you: bots, damn bots and Russian bots.

Fine, I'll dissect the frog for you. The implicit assumption in my statement is that golf courses are not a valid land use, and can be ignored as a form of development. This is a jab at their low utility. "We can put something else there instead of that stupid thing." Does that make sense?

The Pride Plaza is back and better than ever! Last year, we repaved the street and updated the curb ramps to be ADA compliant. This year, we painted the street, added furniture and planters, and made sure this is a welcoming space for all.

Car brain so crazy when you suggest developing land around a transit station people jump to "asphalt and roads" instead of functional public space like parks and plazas.

Fun fact - I taught one of Hank Green's former employees both in class and as an undergraduate member of my lab. You are hitting my exact point. If it can't form a comprehensive solve to fully prevent cancers, how would it conquer the whole planet? A single human is less complicated than a planet.

I firmly believe that AI deploying a widespread cure for cancer at (relatively) low cost is orders of magnitude easier than doing The Big Bad Thing so until cancer is gone, the worriers should be dismissed out of hand. And I am, technically, an expert on these things for what it is worth.

This is an unconscionable amount of death. The DOGE-related cuts resulted in no reduction in taxes (because whatever meager budget reductions they did make were not sufficient to result in tax reduction) so Musk et al. are killing these people for nothing. Will there be consequences?

your regular reminder that the national shoplifting crisis was a manufactured moral panic largely engineered by corporations in order to cover up their own mismanagement — and that wage theft is the largest category of theft in the U.S.
LA Times headline: "Retailers say thefts are a crisis level. The numbers say otherwise."

I want better transit on powell but many data points to me suggest that the 14, 15 or the 20 are the best subwayification opportunities if we’re looking at SE<->NW routes

Portland bar and club managers talk about "It" happening like medieval Europeans talked about Prester John. Times are bleak now, lads, but one elderly man's failing organs are all that stand between us and 150 million Americans launching a drinking binge.

One of the biggest drivers of high housing costs is that a small, highly motivated group of incumbent homeowners block new housing in their neighborhoods and almost no one is organized to push back. Young people bear the brunt of that imbalance. Be a housing fan.

reminder that penguins aren't actually penguins
The great auk (Pinguinus impennis), also known as the penguin or garefowl, is an extinct species of flightless alcid that first appeared around 400,000 years ago and became extinct in the mid-19th century. It was the only modern species in the genus Pinguinus. It was not closely related to the penguins of the Southern Hemisphere, which were named for their resemblance to this species.

I know the Wall Street Journal has been getting worse over time, but this blatant lack of journalistic integrity, deliberate fearmongering, and straight up fabrication is insane. Why lie this blatantly when senior officials are directly saying this is not true? Why keep the article up?

This has been my thing, at this economic point nuclear feels like what we then start making when we *literally run out of room for solar panels* since there isn't really a point where nuclear becomes cheaper than just more solar until we run out of fields for them.

NEW: Tonight, this is all that remains of Nepal's seat of government in Kathmandu. Singha Durbar was the largest palace in Asia; home to the Prime Minister & government offices. A 48-hour revolution, led by Gen Z protestors, has toppled the government & left large parts of the capital in flames.

It is interesting, they do genuinely seem to be trying to kill as many Americans as possible within the political realities they face. If I were designing a perfect admin to destroy both American soft power and cause the highest number of statistical casualties, it would be pretty close to this one.

We need to retaliate, and do so egregiously. We need to force red states to agree to a federal-level independent system which redistricts states in as fair a way as possible. Anything short of this is Democrat leaders implicitly handing over the country to one-party rule.
