I was talking to a tech friend of mine and he was saying that the deluded dream of these tech bros is a world without shared computer programmes - any time you want software you get AI to build you something bespoke, cheap and inelegant to do it. Ultimately this is a continuation of this mindset

This is what i keep coming back to - it's the mindset of a mayor and a fairly parochial one at that. If he's willing to trash the rule of law because the perpetrators regenerated his city, he's not fit to be a politician* *Insert gag about how that's actually the definition of a politician

The Prime Minister intervening in favour of sportswashing because they poured money into his city, and casting doubt on the independent verdict by referring to Everton, a completely different situation. staggeringly corrupt.

Interesting, interesting, I would say one reason not to trust him would be the independent panel finding his club guilty of 114 out of 115 charges, but what do I know
"I've heard everyone else go down every single rabbit hole, every single wormhole, every single discussion," Hart said.

"My honest opinion is I've got no reason not to trust Khaldoon. What he said is enough for me.

"I loved how he spoke. I loved the letter because that was from someone who cared about the club."

"you don't know the completely legitimate legal arguments we're going to use, they go to another school"
On Friday, it was announced City had been found guilty of the vast majority of the 115 charges brought against them and Al Mubarak has responded with a letter to fans on the club's website.

"Following Friday's media reporting, many of you will have spent your evening answering questions and responding to messages from friends, family and colleagues. So have I," Al Mubarak said.

"Here's what I said to my family: The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the club's innocence is just as strong as when this began.

"There are so many things that I would like to be able to share with you to help you understand why we feel so confident in our position.

"But the strict confidentiality of the legal process and our determination to respect it means I cannot do that at the moment. Even this letter underwent several legal checks to make sure it complies."

Yeah I think you would have to treat it like the Tour de France and say there were no winners for those years, which is stupid but that's where we are.
120
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Disagree with that reading of it personally - a lot of lower league Scottish football teams got a massive financial bump from playing at Ibrox or hosting Rangers in those years, and there are often "super clubs" who rip up lower leagues (Wrexham), so not sure that's a reason not to do it
100
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I don't think it's to do with wanting to take a successful club down. I think the scale of the financial doping and the vast benefits accrued by it means that a failure to administer "unreasonable consequences" could lead to a bigger crisis where fans and clubs lose all faith in football governance.
210
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I feel sympathy for the pre-2008 City fans, but it's more just all fans I feel sympathy for - it's made the past 18 years of football feel pointless and tainted. I don't get much schadenfreude here - I'm just angry that English football has been made a mockery of
141
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
there's an element of tribalism here, but it goes beyond that - there's always been money in football and it's always been a corrupting influence but petrostates have distorted everything so much and act with complete impunity that it's just killing any joy I feel for the sport any more
220
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Yeah maybe you're right, but I think it's more than money - with Manchester City and PSG and Newcastle it's just such flagrant sportswashing from petrostates that, to me, it really does hollow out the club and just makes them a vessel to radiate soft power. I'm an Arsenal fan so I can't deny
112
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I don't think you can have your cake and eat it too though - claim a connection to the Paul Dickov years while also celebrating the Guardiola years, as the club sold its authentic soul of the former to attain the plastic success of the latter.
110
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I take your point and I'm fully aware that City existed long before 2008 and I'm aware of the history. To me that version of the club no longer exists, it died when they got bought by a sportswashing project, and I do feel sympathy for the fans who lost their club then. Maybe it's overly harsh but
100
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Respectfully that version of the club died a long time ago, they've been supporting a corrupt plastic sportswashing project for 18 years, my sympathy is very limited
100
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
"It's very community-focused, the way it's been run for the fans, you can't take it away" oh my gosh I'm so sorry I forgot about that rule that says you can engage in systematic financial doping for over a decade as part of a massive sportswashing project as long as your fans are happy
0170
Jack Bernhardt @jackbern.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
the fuck are you talking about
Man City fan Matt on BBC Radio 5 Live: "After listening to that, I think I need therapy now. It's escalated over the last few hours. It's so hard to be a die-hard Blue.

"The decision is made, yet we haven't appealed it or really made a statement yet. It's very community-focused, the way it's been run for the fans, you can't take it away.

"I was there when Paul Dickov scored back in Division Two. We celebrated that success and went on to do incredible things."
