is it time already? this was one of my most popular sticker design back when I had a shop. It will be back... eventually. hope so. #traditionalart #startrekfanart #DS9
drawing fitted into elongated romboid shape, longer on top. The shape is orange coloured, with purple border around. In the middle there's purple DS9 mug, one of those wider at the base. It's full of dark beverage with a small amount of whipped cream on top. Mug is surrouded by three small pumpkins. There's a text that says "Quark's pumpkin spice raktajino", where "Quark's" is written on top in big bold letters like the logo of the ferengi bar. There are also two small black bats at the very top of romboid.

Still thinking about JAWS. I'm fascinated by the dynamics at play between the three main guys (and Brody & Ellen, too). So many little character moments that, in a lesser film, would never have been thought of. So many things touched on that could've been spelled out but are left semi-unexplained.

How is it that the (perfect) song "Be My Angel" by Mazzy Star has existed since NINETEEN NINETY, and yet no one has ever used it for a Destiel fanvid/edit? Or Good Omens? Or anything else I don't know about that involves angelshipping? Someone needs to rectify this immediately...

So last weekend I had the total pleasure of taking my 10yo daughter to see JAWS on the big screen for the 50th anniversary. And just. It'd been a long time since I watched it, and somehow I'd forgotten: It is a perfect, 10/10, no notes film. Just so magnificent. JAWS forever, man. 🦈🦈🦈🦈

DS9 scene. Rom is a Ferengi hero who has a large bald head and giant ears and lobes that sort of connect to make a unibrow and a ribbed pine cone looking nose. He's wearing a jacket that looks like those lick and stick backsplash tiles you can get at Lowe's. He's pictured here standing in a corridor, talking to someone and holding/reading a PADD. Closed caption reads, "Workers of the world unite. You have nothing to lose but your chains."Alt in pic 1 Happy Labor Day

this iconic advertising copywriter named Kathy Hepinstall Parks died over the weekend and I wanted to share something from her website I thought Bluesky would like
Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me?
Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

I don’t have any really big ones myself, but I have purposely engineered one for my daughter, which is that her first concert was Bob Dylan (2022, when she was 8, at the Fox in Oakland). She did not particularly enjoy it but SOMEDAY she’s going to realize what a cool fucking mom I am for that. :)

I feel like what people don’t understand about “explaining stuff to kids” (i.e. gender & sexuality) is that it’s actually a total breeze when they don’t start out with all the shit to *unlearn* that we had. Raise them knowing the truth from the beginning, and like literally your work is done.

poppies in july { #art #spirk #mcspirk #startrek #fanart #tos }
A larger digital art piece featuring a scene from the film "Star Trek V: The final frontier" where James T. Kirk, Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy and S'chn T'gai Spock are camping. This piece is a more abstract-comic style art piece with panels.
At the top left there are a school of salmon (which is used on the right side as well as within the piece). On the right boarder there is also an outline of the cliff of which kirk had climbed.

The top panel is a scene of the three (Kirk on the far left, Bones in the middle and Spock on the right.) Kirk is watching as mccoy spoons something from the pot above the campfire into a bowl spock is holding. Kirk is holding his own.

The next panel down is a simple panel with two melting marshmallows. The proceeding panel from that is a cut of spock playing the vulcan harp.
Throughout the piece, the text reads:
" Row row row your boat.
 Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily.
Life is but a dream"
On the right, there is a white canoe with three people in an eagle eye view (top down).
There are small hearts of each person, the first being human, the next being vulcan and the third being human again. In the middle of the canvas there are three poppies. Within the entire piece there are forget-me-nots at the sides which cut through the boarders.
The final panel are simple outlines of Kirk, Spock and Mccoy. Spock is playing the vulcan harp.
There is a small river, with a very tny canoe and three people within it.

one of my favorite ideas, said 4 ways
“The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. Now here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours.”

Alan Bennett, The History Boys“What better occupation, really, than to spend the evening at the fireside with a book, with the wind beating on the windows and the lamp burning bright...Haven't you ever happened to come across in a book some vague notion that you've had, some obscure idea that returns from afar and that seems to express completely your most subtle feelings?”

Gustave Flaubert, Madame Bovary“What an astonishing thing a book is. It's a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic.”

Carl Sagan, Cosmos“That is part of the beauty of all literature.
You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald

Really good piece on the deeply unconventional sex appeal of Spock (in his original form) and why turning him into some sort of "aggressively heterosexual" male romantic lead doesn't ring true. I can't personally comment on SNW as I haven't seen it yet, but... I don't know, man. I'm concerned. :/

Same energy as this:
Screenshot of a tumblr post posted by user marten-blackwood reading:

“‘Immature people crave and demand moral certainty: This is bad, this is good. Kids and adolescents struggle to find a sure moral foothold in this bewildering world; they long to feel they're on the winning side, or at least a member of the team. To them, heroic fantasy may offer a vision of moral clarity. Unfortunately, the pretended Battle Between (unquestioned) Good and (unexamined) Evil obscures instead of clarifying, serving as a mere excuse for violence — as brainless, useless, and base as aggressive war in
the real world.’

If you're using AI to write essays, eulogies, a text to your wife, I do think less of you as a person. Ceding your mental and creative abilities to a machine is an embarrassing thing and people should be ashamed to admit doing it in public.
