Mundane thoughts about things I encounter. A lot of: Edinburgh, rugby, and hanging out with my child. Silently reading your political takes.

"I just don't think you need a sticker saying 'slay' on your water bottle". 8am conversations with a 5 year old.

Went to a local park with lots of trees, where you occasionally spot a squirrel, and today we saw six *very active* squirrels. If you stood still you could hear them rustling through leaves all around you. What a time of year.

The atmosphere was lovely and incredibly family friendly, but it takes some getting used to being at a football match where you can't shout a lot of the things you instinctively want to shout. Having a 5 year old question every mutter you make against the refs decision really holds you to account.

The Edinburgh derby being played at Easter Road today was excellent. Getting someone to fund it so it was free was even better. More of that please Hibs.

9 points from Ulster away and Stormers. There is no part of our game that hasn't improved, we've got top class players coming back from injury and potentially competing for their place, and we've got a 10 who can kick. What is happening at Edinburgh.

It's an odd feeling going to watch Edinburgh play without feeling like it's an act of self flagellation, and this is against *the Stormers*. We might not win, but we might actually play rugby?! Not felt this since the Mike Blair era.

Every time I see a serial killer tv show advertised I think of this
My dad used to work with Ted Bundy at the University of Utah and every Friday my dad would say, "See ya Monday-Bundy" and I can't imagine how much Ted actually thought about murdering him for
it.

Less delightful for the people who paid up at the start of the season, a lot through auto renewal, who've now paid £30 a week for the first 3 weeks, obviously

DAZN bought the rights to the NFL in the UK, hiked prices and got rid of entry level tiers. Three weeks into this season they've had to cut the price by 50%. Delighted that this has happened to them.
An advert showing NFL helmets, the text says "Game Changer, All the NFL Half The Price". Prices have been cut from £179.99 to £89

What on earth is happening?
This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. One man who worked in search and rescue had been beaten unconscious and hospitalised, recognised for TV interviews he had done.

All supporting acts withdraw from Ed Sheeran’s tour in solidarity with Macklemore
Three openers and live band for Sheeran’s tour depart after removal of Macklemore over ‘free Palestine’ comments All four supporting acts for upcoming dates of Ed Sheeran’s Loop tour have withdrawn in solidarity with fellow opening act Macklemore, as backlash grows to his removal from the tour over onstage comments in support of Palestine. Finneas, the singer who was scheduled to open for Sheeran on six South American dates in November, withdrew from the tour on Tuesday afternoon, hours after Sheeran posted his own lengthy statement to Instagram explaining pressure from venue owners to remove Macklemore for pro-Palestine comments made during two shows at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. Turnover in international rugby head coaches has slowed down, people get longer in a job despite poor performance. Why is that? Is it because modern culture is about "building something", a shallow pool of replacements, or just that contracts make it easier/cheaper to just keep the same guy?

It is utterly deplorable that a housing project in Glasgow was deliberately set on fire because of racist misinformation spread online. Those responsible will be fully pursued and will face justice. Let's unite against racism and lies that seek to break our communities apart.

There's a chance that Dolly Parton saw good, at some level, in every single human being except Piers Morgan, and I think that's beautiful
Piers Morgan: RIP Dolly Parton. Never met her, never interviewed her (despite decades of unrequited requests) but thought she was utterly fabulous in every way.

My daughter goes to quite an international school - today someone tried to align what kids got from the tooth fairy. It turns out in Spain, Mexico, and Ukraine (and more I assume) they don't have a tooth fairy, they have a tooth mouse. Nightmare scenario, we can't even align the tooth collector.

Dolly Parton writing “I will always love you“ and “Jolene“ in the same day is mind blowing.

It’s like if da Vinci finished the Mona Lisa then turned around in the same day and wrote “Jolene“

There are so many reasons to reduce traffic, but surely if nothing else it's just terrible for local businesses? Nobody is driving to a shop on South Bridge. Nobody is stopping to look in the window because they're caught up in a crowded pavement, and soon nobody will want to sit on a standstill bus

Every bus I get along the Royal Mile/Chambers Street/the Bridges is delayed by traffic and bad drivers, land pavements overflow. Why we let cars drive through such popular and historic areas remains beyond me.

Went to meet some friends on the Meadows and stumbled across the "Clown Olympics". I love the fringe.
A couple of hundred people sat on the grass in a loose semi circle, looking towards a small group of performers with big trees as a backdrop. There's a big white board saying "The Clown Olympics", with a man in orange hi vis and a traffic cone hat writing on it.
