These ads go in the same category as brazen, easily disproven lies after ICE killings. It’s not about persuasion. It’s a display of power. They could have passed them off as PAC-funded. They added “paid for by the U.S. government” because they want us to know they can break the law with impunity.

I bike a couple of times a week. There's a stretch where the road is explicitly labeled as a bikeway and there is paint on the road and everything encouraging bikes to ride in the street (there's no bike lane).

Once upon a time I was at a town hall with folks, explaining stuff they didn't want to hear, and one guy got really mad and stood up and offered an objection that *clearly* was racist as hell. None of his friends said anything, and that is why I subsequently weighed all of their opinions at 0.

More to the point: individual workers have dependencies on other individual workers who also don't necessairly control systems output. A lot of the efficiency gains of efficient systems get lost between Business Unit A and Business Unit B.

It's not uncommon for someone in an elected office to get threats from people. It just used to be that the anti-social behavior that was enabled by "all politicians are corrupt" discourse gave people a permission structure to threaten folks in office. Now it's "any of these fake people on my phone"
