How cumulative environmental allergen exposures are encoded by peripheral sensory neurons to shape immune responsiveness is unclear. Zhu et al. show that protease allergens induce an mTORC1-dependent, metabolically trained state in sensory neurons that amplifies later neuroimmune responses to allergens and enables cross-sensitization to antigenically distinct allergens.

A hypothalamic-vagal pathway mediates stress-induced feeding suppression and gastric dysfunction
Dai et al. identify stress-responsive neuropeptide Y receptor Y1-expressing neurons in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus that engage the dorsal vagal complex to suppress feeding and delay gastric emptying. Inhibiting this pathway alleviates these stress-induced responses, revealing a hypothalamic-brainstem circuit coordinating feeding and gastric function during acute stress.
