At some point a people On Here adopted the position native to the post-CRM right that you could say astoundingly bigoted shit but as long as it didn’t have a Forbidden Word Of Power attached to it it was not only not bigotry but anyone cottoning on and condemning your bigotry was the REAL bigot

my read on the Trump promise is that it’s running into two separate and contradictory types of backlash at the same time: 1. people don’t believe he’ll actually give them money 2. people believe that ‘undeserving’ recipients will get money

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

We shouldn't kid ourselves about the biggest reason why Democrats are ahead 9 points in the generic polls: it's the Iran war and the high gas prices it caused. It's not that Americans are afraid for our democracy or mad about DOGE or mad about measles, it's Iran.

The main reason you haven’t heard about campus sexual violence in a few years is because Trump and SCOTUS have made it much, much harder for survivors to come forward. You might vaguely remember that Title IX was a big battleground in his first term. And that we lost.

No I mean that the polling is so bad for the GOP that “not the landslide we expect” is now like the 90th percentile outcome from six months ago. It doesn’t matter if it’s wrong unless it’s wrong in a way we’ve really never seen, and all the anecdotal stuff doesn’t make it feel that wrong.
