A fascinating editorial decision from the BBC, to make the headline a scaremongering “AUTISM AND ADHD ARE BEING OVERDIAGNOSED”, and then, four bullet points later, have the author of the report quoted as essentially saying “nah, that’s bullshit, actually”.
ADHD and autism at risk of over-diagnosis, says report, as author warns of rise in mental ill health
Summary
• An official review in England finds there is a risk of people being over-diagnosed with
ADHD and autism - three key findings from the report
• As well as neurodevelopmental conditions, the review looks at mental ill health, particularly in younger people. Our health correspondent explains the difference
• It was commissioned earlier this year after Wes Streeting, then the health secretary, said there was an "over-diagnosis" of mental health conditions
• Speaking to Radio 4's Today programme earlier, review chair Prof Peter Fonagy said Streeting was "with respect, completely wrong"

This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. Delo’s lawyers are now sending out letters to journalists saying it is breach of privacy law to publish information about Delo’s conviction for an anti-money laundering offence in the US. Another public relations success for Farage.
Article 8 privacy and data protection
Further, and in any event, we remind you of the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 the "Act).
We refer you to the chronology of events set out at (2) above. You will therefore appreciate that pursuant to the Act our client's conviction is spent, as of 14 December 20244.
A conviction which is spent for the
purposes of the Act is that person's private information pursuant to Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. As the Supreme Court put it:
"As [the conviction] recedes into the past, it becomes a part of the person's private life".
That principle was upheld more recently in NT1 & NT2 v Google LLC®.
Our client therefore has a reasonable expectation of privacy in that information. In all the circumstances, given the lack of any legitimate or genuine justification for publicising it, whether on X, Substack or otherwise, there can be no public interest in the publication you have threatened and already effected, let alone one which is sufficiently strong to outweigh the compelling Article 8 rights of our client.
NT1&NT2 also clarified that a person's criminal conviction, particularly if that conviction is spent, constitutes personal data and is therefore protected by UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 ("DPA").

At the start of the chart, in 2014, the rate is higher in states with abortion bans, but the rates in the two groups of states are not far apart. The rate increases in both groups of states, but the climb is much steeper in states that banned abortion.
