The 2026 #ScienceSymposium is coming up! I've updated the Make Your Own Antibiotic worksheet and I've introduced a new Antibiotic or Pokemon game (some of these stumped me!) The 3rd activity will be a bean bag (antibiotic) toss at cans (bacteria) based on antibiogram. That's a project for next week
Worksheet aimed at elementary school children to teach about infectious diseases and pharmacy. Based on first letter of their name and month of birth, a weird drug name is produced. They are then guided to randomly choose numbers (for dose and frequency) and route to compete their new antibiotic.A worksheet geared towards elementary school children to team them about infectious diseases and pharmacy. The worksheet lists 12 names and they are asked to determine if this is an antibiotic brand name or a pokemon name.

Key IPC takeaways from #ESCMIDGlobal2026 👀 🔹 Quality > compliance (hand hygiene) 🔹 Gel Nail polish may not ↑ risk 🔹 PICCs: “antimicrobial” ≠ better 🔹 Gowns: limited added value 🔹 PPE ↓ possible without ↑ infections 🔹 Microplastics → emerging AMR risk Data should drive practice.

Gowns & respiratory viruses—nuance matters👀 🔹 HCW clothing contamination common; viruses persist 🔹 Limited protective effect (~29% studies) 🔹 Short-sleeve + good hygiene may be sufficient Are gowns always necessary—or part of the problem? #ESCMIDGlobal2026 #InfectionControl
