Seeing many posts about #plague, so a reminder: Plague is serious -- an incident involving a high-containment lab warrants investigation. Right now, we have an unexplained death from pneumonia, NOT confirmed plague or evidence of an outbreak. Watch closely. Avoid speculation. Follow the evidence.

One unexplained death in Russia, with possible concerns about #plague, is dominating headlines. Meanwhile, #Ebola continues to worsen in DRC with 8,300 cases. 4,018 deaths since May Yet much of the world and the media seems to have moved on. What’s wrong with this picture?

A lab worker’s death after a reported accident in Russia has raised concern for #plague. A reminder: As the US dismantles public health, we weaken our ability to detect and contain the next threat. Cutting surveillance doesn’t eliminate danger. It makes us slower to see it.
