The thing about this book is that I wrote it from a deeply personal place-- it takes place where I went to hs, the main girl looks suspiciously like me-- about the rape culture I experienced at the age that was unacceptable. And all I've ever wanted for this book was its cultural irrelevance.

Personally annoyed at the eligibility criteria for this program as there are bunch of under-employed Canadian-trained and Canadian-resident ECR entomologists that would crush this position. Here's hoping McGill will use this to repatriate one of our expats.

Ms Megischus bicolor, a very silly, very serious wasp. Very long.
Slender long wasp with a rough-textured red hed cd thorax, and shiny long black abdomen with an ovipositor as long as the rest of her body. Chilling on a fallen log topped with dry shroomsClose shot of the creature's head. They're called crown wasps, because they have a rough knobby crown they use to burrow out of wood when they emerge as adults The extremely long ovipositor

Heads up, #science people, this "Earth BioGenome Project/Genomes on a Tree (GoaT)" uses generative AI extensively in their advertising, so I would definitely not trust anything that comes out of this. If they can't be bothered to use real graphics and make their own posts, I doubt their app is good.
Screenshot of a post from "Earth BioGenome Project" bluesky account advertising a new "science app" that has "we vibe coded the shit out of this" stink all over it. The post shows two slides, one which looks normal-ish with text over the top of slices of different photos of animals, plants, and fungi. The other one is definitely generated by some kind of Gen-AI steal prompt. It shows a goat in a lab coat by a weird looking "tree" and for some reason there are infographic type logos above sets of text, something that gen AI loves to do when "creating" slides.

The text of the main post reads:
How do you coordinate a global genome-sequencing effort? Before starting a new genome, researchers need to know: What's already been sequenced? What's underway? And where are the gaps? That's where Goat — Genomes on a Tree — comes in. Explore GoaT.

I'm probably going to get muted or blocked for this, but as a fellow science communicator, using AI-generated imagery/text is really a bad look all around. It not only steals from your fellow scientists because it's all trained on stolen data, it also makes up fake science.

The main reason you haven’t heard about campus sexual violence in a few years is because Trump and SCOTUS have made it much, much harder for survivors to come forward. You might vaguely remember that Title IX was a big battleground in his first term. And that we lost.

Princeton finally handed off some advance copies for the 2nd Edition of my wasp book, and they look phenomenal! Thank you everyone for your exceptional patience! Go order it right now!! press.princeton.edu/books/paperb...
A photo of me (a white woman with long brownish hair wearing glasses and a dark blue shirt) holding an advance copy of my book "The Social Wasps of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean: Second Edition" in front of an old wooden railing and some lush sassafras leaves. There is a big illustration of a bald-faced hornet on the cover.

This photo is slightly misleading, since it was taken by my mom a year ago in 2025, immediately before we noticed the major printing errors in the plate series that required us to completely redo the printing from scratch. My joy is nonetheless real, and I feel justified in using this photo since I never posted it the first time around. It's all good now!

A mostly dark brown bird with a white throat and upper chest, black crest (blocky shaped head) and heavy orange bill. It is standing on the crossbar of a wooden electric pole.
