While Pronghorn are not thought of some of the great overland migrants - they actually are pretty impressive movers. Here at their northern edge, they are moving south in raggedy herds, 100s of kms in a quest to find great, snow free areas to winter. #mammals

Longhorn #bees (probably Melissodes druriellus) are back at Legacy Park for the fall. Males (like this one) seem to emerge a little earlier than females. These were on goldenrod but as more of the little white asters (symphyotrichum) comes into bloom they will shift over there. #bugsky

The 12yo has declared it Northern Barrens Tiger Beetle Awareness Day! The beetle, Cicindela patruela in lovely metallic green with cream spots, is endangered here in Ontario & Quebec and vulnerable in several northern US states. It lives in openings in sandy oak-pine woodlands and savannah.

We lost our beautiful Aunt Florence yesterday. So grateful mom was able to hold her hand one last time as we sang to her. She has been released. Saw this butterfly today and thought of her.

The first day of our seasonal fruitstand at LeMaister Farm is tomorrow, Labor Day. We'll have unique Eastsound Rose seedling apples (they taste like roses!) and Gravensteins from the farm's orchard. Heritage apples (like Gravenstein) are pay-what-you-wish, unique new varieties are $1 an apple.
