Alcatraz isn’t going to reopen and there isn’t going to be a 100% tariff on “foreign made movies.” Notice, though, how by saying some new batshit crazy things that President Trump has shifted media headlines away from whether or not he believes in Constitutionally-guaranteed rights to due process.

Coverage of the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia has gravitated towards his biography and what he’s done and alleged to have done during his life. All of that is irrelevant to the current situation. The only seven words that matter right now are: • “Checks and balances” • “Court orders” • “Due process”

It bears repeated mention that SpaceX’s revenue is largely Federal contracts and that Tesla’s most profitable revenue stream isn’t vehicles; it’s selling carbon credits which were created by statute. Elon Musk’s hostility towards government seems incongruous with key sources of his vast fortune.

In 2004, a core part of George W. Bush’s reelection campaign was demagoguing gays. By 2012, voters began to pass state-level referenda making it legal for gays to marry. By 2020, a Conservative-majority SCOTUS decided Bostock 6-3 to protect LGBTQ+ from workplace discrimination. History ain’t over.
