So this photo contains zero birds, but in my defence, we were sitting outside waiting for birds. But the sun was almost setting and the backlit Snapdragons stole the show!

A backlit snapdragon flower that is partially opened. The background is dark green with a round sun like highlight in the top right corner. It’s actually an out of focus highlight that appears large because it’s a telephoto lens. The pink snapdragon flower is rim lit but has some light bouncing back to light the flower.
For those interested, the lens is a 400mm and required 5 frames focused on slightly different parts of the flower to be stacked together so the entire flower was sharp .

The photograph shows Veronica chamaedrys, a perennial herbaceous plant in the Plantaginaceae family.

Appearance Description

Flowers: Bright blue or piercing blue, approximately 10–15 mm in diameter. The corolla has four petals with dark veins and a white spot at the base (throat). Two long stamens protrude from the center of the flower.

Stem: Ascending, 10 to 45 cm tall. A characteristic feature of the species is two rows of soft hairs located on opposite sides of the stem.

Leaves: Rounded-ovate, with coarsely toothed or serrated edges. They are arranged opposite and covered with soft pubescence.

Buds: Collected in loose axillary racemes. The photo shows both open flowers and densely hairy unopened buds. Traits and Ecology

Flowering Period: Typically from May to July-August.

Habitat: Common in forest clearings, forest edges, meadows, and along roadsides throughout Eurasia.

Behavior: Veronica is known as a "barometer plant"—its flowers close before rain, protecting their pollen.

Uses: In folk medicine, it is used as an anti-inflammatory, expectorant, and hemostatic agent.
