I recognize the pain of thinking if I could only talk to them one more time. It is among the more familiar human laments. But that's just the thing it is a human problem to be endured not a technological problem to be sold. Our capacity for loss – in fact the necessity of losing and having lost – is what makes us who we are. Individually and collectively. There is no workaround. There will be no workaround. And every step toward preventing that or perverting that is an affront to our humanity. Why not just taxidermy nana and prop her up at the Texas Chainsaw Massacre dinner table? At least there's something real and tangible about that. Undeniable in its sacrilege. You should have to smell the dead when you disinter them.

There’s a book called “The Tory Syndrome” from 1980 which argues that Canada’s Tories are so dysfunctional because they’re just a coalition of everyone who isn’t a winner under the Liberals, and those groups have little in common and don’t like each other.

My dad was born in ‘57 in The Netherlands to WWII survivors & came to Canada at 28. He was very strict about what video games my brother & I could play, one big rule being that we couldn’t play games where we killed humans (i.e. monsters were fair game). He let us play the Castle Wolfenstein games.

I continue to posit that one of the key failures of the online anti-trump grifting/pundit class is that they really hammer on this "we have to promote democracy!" When it's becoming clear, everywhere, that voters don't actually give a rats ass about democratic systems instead of outcomes.
