Schumer doing us a favor here. Making it crystal clear he will not help us. We ignore or rationalize his message at our peril. He, Jeffries et al must be swept aside on the path to power. Thanks for absolutely nothing Chuck.

It's time to state clearly that if MAGA and Republicans can't condemn any part of this shooting, continue to blame the victim for it, and even hint that it's a just outcome that others "deserve," that's a crossing of the line that the rest of us won't ever be able to forget.

The man who tried to assassinate Trump was a gun-loving Trump supporter who later turned on him. Right-wing media blamed Democrats, because of course. The alleged Minnesota shooter is an anti-abortion Christian nationalist w/ a list with other Dems as targets. They're still blaming liberals.

Dear god let this man cook.
Pritzker: It’s time for us to be done with optimism about their motives. Time to stop wondering if you can trust the nuclear codes to people who don’t know how to organize a group chat. It’s time to stop ignoring the hypocrisy in wearing a big gold cross while announcing the defunding of children’s cancer research… Autistic kids and adults who are loving contributors to our society don’t deserve to be stigmatized by a weird nepo baby who once stashed a dead bear in his car. Our military service members don’t deserve to be told by a washed-up Fox TV commentator, who drank too much before being appointed Secretary of Defense, that they can’t serve their country simply because they are Black, gay, or a woman.

This is, unsarcastically, unironically, exactly what Democrats need to be doing: the entire “we need a strong Republican Party,“ “we have to work together” shit needs to end. They need to say with their whole chest: Republicans are evil, stupid people, and need to stop having power. That’s it.

Whenever right-wingers deride empathy, I am reminded of this quote from U.S. Army psychologist Gustave Gilbert who interviewed the Nuremberg war criminals.
Gilbert's lasting contribution to the Nuremberg trials came in his work defining the nature of evil. In his 1950 book The Psychology of Dictatorship, Gilbert wrote, "In my work with the defendants, I was searching for the nature of evil and I now think I have come close to defining it. A lack of empathy. It’s the one characteristic that connects all the defendants, a genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow men. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy.”

Momodou Taal left the United States. forwarding his statement from twitter:
I would like first to thank from the bottom of my heart every single individual and organization that supported me through this, particularly my fantastic legal team. Everything I have tried to do has been in service of affirming the humanity of the Palestinian people, a struggle that will leave a lasting mark on me.

Today I took the decision to leave the United States, free and with my head held high. For those following this story: I decided to sue the Trump administration with the hope that it would offer reprieve for myself and other similarly situated persons. But Trump did not want me to have my day in court and sent ICE agents to my home and revoked my visa. We held out but our first motion was denied. We were due to submit a second briefing with the hope that I could stay out of detention whilst the lawsuit progressed. For every person that has remained silent, just know that you are not safe either. Is the imprisonment of those who speak out against a genocide a reflection of your values? Is this the kind of nation you want to live in? We are already seeing the Trump administration exploiting the complicity of those who have remained silent on the Zionist genocide of Palestinians. The repression of Palestinian solidarity is now being used to wage a wholesale attack on any form of expression that challenges oppressive and exploitative relations in the US.Given what we have seen across the United States, I have lost faith that a favourable ruling from the courts would guarantee my personal safety and ability to express my beliefs. I have lost faith I could walk the streets without being abducted. Weighing up these options, I took the decision to leave on my own terms.

This is of course not the outcome I had wanted going into this, but we are facing a government that has no respect for the judiciary or for the rule of the law.It is surreal that we live in a world where you get into trouble for saying killing babies is wrong. Where those advocating for, and celebrating, endless massacres against Palestinians are able to, time and again, present themselves as victims while presenting those fighting against genocide as the oppressors. For months on end, we've had to listen to - ad nauseam - concerns regarding the safety of Zionist students when they are the same students who dox, monitor and collaborate with law enforcement to target students of color. If you have been led to think that your safety is only guaranteed by state kidnap, repression, deportation, the slaughter of children, and the suppression of the global majority, then let Gaza's shards of glass be your mirror.

I mean... holy shit.
From Rasmus Jarlow, Danish politician: "I don't know if there is a kill switch in the F35's or not. We obviously can not take your word for it.

As one of the decision makers behind Denmark's purchase of F35's, I regret it.

The USA can certainly disable the planes by simple stopping the supply of spare parts. They want to strengthen Russia and weaken Europa and are showing that they are willing to do tremendous damage to peaceful and loyal allies like Canada just because they insist on existing as a country.

I can easily imagine a situation where the USA will demand Greenland from Denmark and will threaten to deactivate our weapons and let Russia attack us when we refuse (which we will even in that situation).

Therefore, buying American weapons is a security risk that we can not run. We will make enormous investments in air defence, fighter jets, artillery and other weapons in the coming years, and we must avoid American weapons if at all possible.

I encourage our allies and friends to do the same."

As promised, updated scripts here for HR 9495, which will be headed back to the floor around Wednesday. Yes, this is the bill that gives the Sec. Treasury powers to strip non-profits of their C3 status. 1. For House members, 2. For Senators, 3. For New Yorkers to call Schumer. Please call.
Script for House members about HR 9495 (11.16.2024)

YOU: Hi, my name is [name]. I’m calling from [zip].

YOU: I’m calling on [HOUSE MEMBER] to vote NO to HR 9495 when it comes back to the floor again next week. The changes to the bill aren’t enough to address all previous concerns regarding it creating new powers that would be ripe for abuse.

YOU: While HR 9495’s core aim of supporting wrongfully detained U.S. nationals is sound, the bill would still empower any Secretary of the Treasury with a tool that would give them broad discretionary powers, which could easily become a threat to free speech and a violation of due process.

INCLUDE FOR HOUSE DEMS WHO VOTED YES LAST TIME (OPTIONAL): I know House member voted YES last time, and I’m calling on them to vote no this time. HR 9495’s core aims can be separated out. It shouldn’t move forward in a bill that would give unchecked powers to the Trump Administration. This isn’t sound policy.

YOU: And again, there’s already federal stature which makes it illegal for non-profit groups to fund terrorist groups. This reinvents the wheel for purposes that don’t make sense.

YOU: I am calling on [HOUSE MEMBER] to vote no.

YOU: [OPTIONAL COMMENTS - clarify if you want a response]Script for Senators about HR 9495:

YOU: Hi, my name is [name]. I’m calling from [zip].

YOU: I’m calling on [SENATOR] to vote NO to HR 9495 should it come to the Senate floor.

YOU: While HR 9495’s core aim of supporting wrongfully detained U.S. nationals is sound, the bill would still empower any Secretary of the Treasury with a tool that would give them broad discretionary powers, which could easily become a threat to free speech and a violation of due process. The bill shouldn’t move forward, full stop. It would give unchecked powers to the Trump Administration. This isn’t sound policy.

YOU: There’s already federal stature which makes it illegal for non-profit groups to fund terrorist groups. This reinvents the wheel for purposes that don’t make sense, and gives broad powers to the Executive Branch.

FOR GOP SENATORS (OPTIONAL): And do we really want to make government more expansive? I thought the goal was to streamline government?

YOU: I am calling on [SENATOR] to vote no.

YOU: [OPTIONAL COMMENTS - clarify if you want a response]SCRIPT FOR NEW YORKERS TO CALL SCHUMER ON NOT MOVING FORWARD WITH THE BILL (11.16.2024)

YOU: Hi, my name is [name], and I’m calling from [zip].

YOU: I’m calling on Senator Schumer to not move forward with bringing HR 9495 to the Senate floor for a vote, should I make it through the House this upcoming week.

YOU: While HR 9495’s core aim of supporting wrongfully detained U.S. nationals is logical, the bill would grant any Secretary of the Treasury excessive discretionary powers. This creates a significant risk to free speech and could easily result in violations of due process. The bill shouldn’t move forward under any circumstances.

YOU: Allowing this bill to advance would set a dangerous precedent, especially with the unchecked powers it could offer to a future Trump Administration. This isn’t responsible or sound policy.

YOU: I urge Senator Schumer to ensure that this bill to not move forward with this bill.

YOU: [Optional comments or questions, and specify if you’d like a response]

Okay, all. As promised. 1. Here is the call script to ask our Dem Senators to appoint judges. 2. And a second script *specifically* for New Yorkers to use for Schumer.
YOU: Hi, my name is [NAME]. I’m calling from [Zip Code].

YOU: I’m calling [DEM SENATOR] to ask that they take urgent action in the wake of Tuesday’s election results.

YOU: Now that we know that Donald Trump is coming back into the White House, we have to do everything in our power to safeguard our institutions from being harmed.

YOU: [DEM SENATOR] must push Leader Schumer to act quickly on these judicial and federal regulator appointments. We cannot leave judicial openings for him to fill, like we did at the end of the Obama Administration. We’ve already clearly seen the damage of all of the judicial appointments that Trump filled, from the ongoing fight for student loan relief, to the abortion fight.

YOU: Democratic governors have already begun acting to shore up protections, and I ask - no, demand - that our U.S. Democratic Senators do the same. We must work quickly. There is no time to waste.

YOU: [OPTIONAL COMMENT - e.g. request a response]
YOU: Hi, my name is [NAME]. I’m calling from [Zip Code].

YOU: I’m calling on Leader Schumer to clarify just how he’ll lead the Senate after Tuesday’s election results. We now know that the Dems will lose the Senate come January, and Trump is coming back to the White House. The Leader MUST clarify his plan for the remaining two months, and he must do it quickly.

YOU: I am specifically calling on Leader Schumer to begin taken urgent action on judicial and federal regulator nominations. We cannot leave vacancies for the Trump Administration to fill. We already saw what happened after he was able to fill 100+ nominations in his first term of office, and the ripple effects it’s had on progressive actions across the country.

YOU: Leader Schumer cannot pretend this is a normal transition. There’s a reason that Democratic governors are calling special sessions and holding press conferences to discuss how to protect against Trump, and the Leader must do the same.

YOU: I would like a response [EXPLAIN IN WHAT FORMAT]
