Ruby Bridges was 6-years-old when she stepped into the history books. Bravely accompanied by her mother, she was the first Black child to desegregate an all-white school in the South. It was not long ago… Today is her birthday. She is still with us. She is 72. Happy birthday, Ruby Bridges 💜

As Britain swelters through another heatwave, few people will have heard that ministers have quietly dropped plans for solar carports. Cars cooler in summer. Shelter from the rain in winter. Clean electricity all year round. A missed opportunity?

Had a wee trip down to Inverness today so popped into Leakey's Bookshop, before a nice baked tattie at Cafe 1668 (tackling food waste & poverty), then checked out the oldest home in Inverness, Aberstarff House. Got treated to a bar of Dark Chocolate & Haggis Spice 1/2

Our national anthem at international sporting events gets me every single time! I am vicariously feeling the energy through all the footage I see being shared. The Scots came & brought the party with them. It won’t matter if we don’t win the Cup, we’ve won anyway.

THREAD. 3 & 1/4 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he'd been living, in rural Cornwall, & decided he wanted to live with us instead. We decided to call him Jim. This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st 2022

As you can see here, right from the very first day he entered our house, Jim found great difficulty in getting settled and making the environment his own.

We call ourselves "intelligent," yet the humblest fungus can decompose waste and build soil, a tree can harness solar energy, and a wetland can purify water—all without toxic byproducts. True intelligence is learning from these systems, not bulldozing them.

The oxygen that keeps us alive comes from natural ecosystems: half on land, half at sea. It's not complicated: we are TOTALLY dependent on the living world. Yet it's still treated as nothing but 'resources', to exploit and destroy for profit.
