This is why I wish it had just become THE Civ theme going forward, every new one since just hasn't measured up to it.

I don't think Marvel's superheroes in the early '60s can be discussed without bringing up how they're an extension of the SF/horror comics Marvel had already been making up until then. The design of the creature that the Fantastic Four are fighting in that 1st issue fits right in with those comics.

I don’t necessarily have an issue with the casting of the new Astaire biopic. I think they should cast dancers rather than actors but that‘d be hard. I just think that Fred Astaire just doesn’t have a story. Like he’s a great artist who was a professional. Gene Kelly though, more interesting.

In part, at least for liberal leaning media figures, it seems like a reaction to the loss and trying to make sense of defeat, especially in 2016 when the vibe and polling almost assured a Clinton victory. In effect, it creates a discontent between their reality and actual events.

It has always amused me how Marvel keeps trying to make Spider-Man an awkward teen in all their non-comic media when all his most famous, early arcs portray Peter as this hip, stylish early 20-something with love triangles. I feel like that’s the Spidey people acrually love.

I'd never seen this Roy Lichtenstein painting before, but it's incredible how he manages unfailingly to make his copies worse than the original comics he's ripping off.

Lots of people are this way about special effects, too. Something being illustrative or stylistically heightened is often written off as failed execution. Realism is valued far more than fantasy for a lot of people and I legitimately think it’s a creative literacy thing
